I agree with the pp "Disneyland", one of my favorites is La Haceinda De Los Barios on Redland but go early on the weekends because the evenings are packed with upwards of a 45 minute wait especially on the patio.
Other mexican favorites of mine are Mamacitas on I-10 and Casa De Rio on the Riverwalk. I also like Zuni Grill down at the riverwalk.
For great quick Burritos we go to Habeneros Grill, there's a new location at The Rim. Excellent food to sneak into a movie!

For non-chain Italian try Pompeii Grill Restaurant Yum!

Great hole-in-the-wall eatery is Quicksands cafe & bakery at Embassy Oaks Shopping Center. Homemade soups, salads, sandwiches and more.

Madhatters Downtown (http://www.madhatterstea.com/madhatter_exp.html - broken link) is worth a trip too!

Good Greek at Aladdins on 1604 in the Stone Oak area.

I think technically it's Lebanese food - but I agree, it's very good. We need to head out there again. They have lots of great food that you don't see everyday.

Paesano's is great italian food at the Quarry near the airport. Also canyon cafe has great southwestern food (this is not mexican). Chuy's at the Northwoods shopping center is great tex-mex in a fun funky environment. Water Street oyster bar, is a wonderful semi-upscale seafood restaurant in the Lincoln Heights area.

Moderator cut: inappropriate It's Ounce Steak House, not 8 Ounce Steak House. The resturants you mentioned are not the best, Stone Works is more of a bar then a resturant I think. Also, Stone Works at the Quarry has a much better atmosphere then the strip mall one at 1604. Le Reve, Sandbar, Bistro Vatel, Ciao Lavanderia, The Cove, The Lodge at Castle Hills, Bohanan's etc...

La Margarita for Mexican on Blanco and 1604 (sort of) is delicious. Their margaritas are STRONG and the patio is great. I alos like La Paloma (Alamo Heights).

For Mexican, I would recommend Mamacita's off IH10 or Mi Tierra, Pico de Gallo, or Piedras Negras downtown all have a really nice atmosphere. Los Barrios and La Fogata are also really good places to check out!

For BBQ we always enjoy Rudys, especially the cream corn (of course)
