LOL.....our dog once treed an baby opossum all day and into the night. He would not leave the area....he just sat and stared for hours. Finally, when it got late we brought him in so the baby could leave and get back to its' momma.

Armadillos, Raccoons, Coyotes, Foxes, Snakes, Lizards, Frogs, Bats, Spiders, Scorpions, Centipedes, Fire Ants, Wasps.
Those are all the critters and creepy crawlies we've had out at our house. One thing I've never seen, but I'm sure they are there are mice or rats.
The scorpions and snakes freak me out the most. The snakes I've seen are little, but there are rattlers out there. To me it's just part of living where I feel more part of nature instead of in a asphalt jungle. Our only bad encounter was when my 10 month old tried to eat a scorpion and got stung on the lip. He's fine.

I've been here a year (moved from Colorado). We're just north of city limits - back to a greenbelt but don't have "land" of our own (just a yard).
So far we've seen a few spiders - and yes, they're big, but I've seen them that big in CO as well. Yucky. And we've had several scorpions. That's about it for IN the house - sure there are some june bugs, big beetles, etc. outside from time to time, and some frogs, lizards & snakes, but not in the house.
I am VERY not into bugs so when we moved here we hired an exterminators - we use Bob Jenkins but just get someone! He sprays quarterly for us inside & out and the yard, and really we have hardly any bugs - I mean, I think living in SA on a greenbelt means the occassional scorpion and since they were here first, we just try to deal (yes, with lots of screaming and stuff, but still, we deal...).
Good luck on your move here - it is a nice place.

We moved just south of S.A. about 9 months ago. So far we've seen about 15 scorpions ( 6 inside house ). Maybe 8 wolf spiders ( venomous ) and big. Six copperhead snakes - one bit our 95 lb lab on the lower lip - luckily he's big enough to with stand the venom and came out o.k.Lots of other critters not so dangerous - lizards, toads, geckos, wasps, etc. We chose to live out of the city and we love it here. You just have to share the lifestyle and appreciate the beautiful country. We love animals and the land to spread out and enjoy.

Phew! I'm glad we weren't the only ones to experience such "joys"!!! When we lived "out in the country" in Atascosa County, we had tons of visitors!!! Our bassett hound was bit on the face by a copper head one time, and it was so pathetically adorable to see her face all swollen up.
Have you experienced any centipedes yet, turnerfamily????? They are a true TREAT!
