Hello all! My family and I are planning a possible move from California to SA. We have researched prices of homes and are interested in finding out how much it would cost to build a home if we owned a piece of land (Canyon Lake)? I would like to build something between 1700 and 2200 sq ft. I understand alot depends on all the little extras, but does anyone have an idea of a general cost? Any info would be helpful.

Default How much?

I live on the north side of Canyon Lake in Mystic Shores, the going rate for new construction starts at about 130.00 per square foot. This includes the cost of your lot. Many builders are in the 140.00 to 150.00 range depending on what you want. Two to three year old house are going for about 115.00 to 120.00 in the same area.

For a home in that sq. ft. range, I'd say somewhere between 150k and 250k

Thanks rlw and 210! Looks like it would be cheaper to purchase a fixer-upper!

Yes, compared to California. One could buy 3 or 4 decent houses here in San Anto. Salivating? Ah yes, then you get the PROPERTY TAX BILL!!

What did you think Texas was? Heaven? There are only two things you can be sure of in Texas. Cheaper houses than California and higher property taxes!
