Me thinks you should re-read her second paragraph, third sentence about her husband will work at Brooks. Also, please re-read my post as the directions are from Potranco/SH 151 area where they could live as I stated. Also, I know both bases are not close to each other. I have been on both bases MANY times since 1979.

Aw geez...you're right! I missed it, sorry.

When I first got here, I had a guy in my shop tell me to take Military to get from the Hill to Brooks. Took me FOREVER! Needless to say that's one of the things I tell people when they start asking!

Just wanted to add that my husband works at Lackland. We bought a house in Red Bird Ranch and are VERY happy. There might be some homes for rent there as well, not sure. My husband has a VERY easy drive to work. 15 minutes no lights. RBR is in the 78253 area code. We are 5.8 miles west of 1604/Potranco. Husband takes 211 to 90 to the base.

We recently PCS'd here as well (August). Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions.

Default What rank is he?

Not to pry but depending on his rank, may determine what area is best as well since he will only get so much BAH, and you may not start your childcare right away since you'll have to get settled in. I'd recommend off of 151 and Potranco. Easy shot to Lackland or Brooks (I worked at Brooks when I was still in the service and live off 1604 & Braun and the drive isn't that bad - compared to where I'm from LOL). FYI, if you want, I can recommend a real estate agent to you. She helps look for places to rent and loves working with military families (always looking at for YOUR best interest).

My husband will be working at Brooks, but we want to live closer toLackland, as that is where all the military amenities that we are used to are. HE is a SrA right now, but will pin on Staff Sergeant the beginning of March. We have found a lot of GREAT stuff in the 78245 zip code...is that a decent area?

Yes, 78245 is a very decent area.

I actually drove through a subdivision off Potranco called Bella Vista.

You'd love it there I'd bet. Looked very family oriented.

Also, you'd have an easy drive to Brooks. 211 to 90 to 37.

Zip Code 78245 is mostly an older area with some nice newer homes, though IMO 78253 is nicer (lived in 78245 11 years and 7 years in 78253). Belle Vista is in the 78253 area. The 78245 areas is on the other side (South) of Potranco. Although Belle Vista is very nice, it may be a little too pricey for a new SSgt though. DR Horton at Red Bird Ranch would probably be more affordable and is a little closer to SH 211.

You are correct. Bella Vista is in the 78253 zip code.

Let me revise my statement.

78245 is decent. 78253 is very decent!
