Default Were You Here In The 70's?

Do you remember a television show called 'Carascolendas'? It was like an 'Electric Company' but bi-lingual?

I was just going to answer the question in the title because I was here in the 70's - 1975 to be exact, my dad was at Lackland and I was 2

I'd have to ask my mom if she remembers that show, but I'm not sure if they even had a TV they were so poor!

I was there in the 70's (all of them!) and I remember the Electric Company, but have no recollection of Carascolendas. What channel and time slot was it on?

My kids used to watch the Electric Co. but I don't remember Carascolendas. Was it possibly on the local Spanish station which I believe was channel 41 back then?

In the 70s, I was a little kid living in Laredo, but we used to get Carrascolendas. I don't know what channel/station used to broadcast it, but it was on in the morning along with other shows like Electric Company and Captain Kangaroo. Ah, great summer morning memories.

I have been buying DVDs of all those old shows, but Carrascolendas has proved elusive. Here's a link to a book that was written about the show:

Amazon.com: Looking for Carrascolendas: From a Child's World to Award-Winning Television (Louann Atkins Temple Women & Culture Series): Aida Barrera: Books

I'm pretty sure it was not on the Spanish station because after these shows my Mom used to switch to the Spanish channel to watch telenovelas. The book link on my previous post mentions it was broadcast on PBS.

I was here from 70-74 (Born at BAMC)! Moving back in less than 2 weeks.

I'll have to ask my parents and brother. I know it was shown in a few Southwest states. My brother was in the cast.

That's possible. It was a mixed cast of kids who were bi-lingual. My brother was about 10 or 11 when he was on it. He'd been in SA from ages 2-12 and was very fluent.

I had a hard time searching it out about a year ago myself. We have the large size photo posters of my brother on the set somewhere at my parents.

My cousin recalls seeing it when they were in Colorado, too.

It's a bit of family trivia/sibling rivalry in our family. heh. My parents auditioned my middle sister and my brother, who wasn't there to audition, was chosen for his Spanish skills.

Off to check out the link. Thank you!!
