Default Finding a babysitter

We have been here two months and I have had NO luck finding a babysitter. I have asked around EVERYWHERE, but everyone tells me they use family or friends. We are making friends here, but I would rather have someone I can hire to babysit our 4 year old daughter.

Can anyone recommend a safe way to find a babysitter around here? Has anyone tried some of the online places? I am kind of apprehensive about Craigslist.

We live in RBR off Potranco.

Does Redbird Ranch have an HOA that possibly sends out a newsletter? Or how about a community bulletin board in their office? I know some posters on here live in the Potranco area and they have daughters that babysit. They've all learned to trust each other after a meet n greet or two--as far as I know, they were all perfect strangers a year ago!

Are you just needing a night out? Or a FT type of arrangement? Good luck....it's hard finding someone, I know.

DM sent - I know a lady that runs a babysitting training group, but the name escapes me right now...I'll sent over her contact info.

My oldest daughter trained with her for a while - they provide CPR, childcare, etc training. Unfortunately high school is keeping her pretty busy these days....

Hey!!! We resemble that remark!!

Yeah Julie, this is a great place for "networking" like that! There's a couple of mom's that post on here who now both hire my daughter for babysitting fairly frequently (and even more importantly ~ we mommies have become friends, too!!!!). If somebody organizes a meet & greet, make a point of stopping by.

I know people who used a website - not sure if I can post it here, but it's a sitter reference site. It doesn't cost anything to use it. I can understand being tentative about that though. We've always gone through neighbors or church to find someone.

Search for find babysitter san antonio and it comes up in the search.

Why not? I found my husband and friends that way! Really though, when you move to a new area, how do you know someone from the internet vs. someone from church or a neighbor? I knew absolutely no one in this whole town and now I know a bunch of people that...OH MY I mainly met online! It's just a new way of getting connected, not scarier all of the time.

My friend found an excellent sitter through a reputable babysitter referral site. They are thoroughly screened and come with many references. For someone who comes to a town with no family and friends, it's often a better choice than a random neighbor kid. You don't get background checks on neighbors or church members.
