Thanks for a good response.

My suggestion is stepping up special task forces...hiring more officers..

younger officers. more in shape, physically fit to literally comb the streets be it undercover and marked units.

in all troublesome areas.

it will take more men and more units on the streets of SA to crack down.

at 3 am there are so many IHOPS and Jims and Las Palapas parking lots filled with Cop cars.

They need to be out on the streets patrolling.

Grab a quick bite but do not meet and sit for 95 mins conversing with your pals.

I also feel that officers need to be paid more.

Back to the younger officers I mentioned. Let me clarify. I think there needs to be a mix of experience and youth to make this work.

Knowledge with the right physical tools to impose law on this troubled community.

I fear that San Antonio is on the verge of becoming a city run by gangs.
I have to agree with your statement here.. there are many times that I see that type of response on these boards.. its more the look away and it isnt happening mentality here.. lets wake up and smell the coffee.. crime is happening here and it is more rampant then me or you would care to admit.. it is happening on every side of town to include you people that live out by 281 and 1604 and feel life is so gleeful.. look on the other side of the railroad tracks.. sooner or later they will want you have.. and then the fun will begin...

These must be responses based on knowledge... I tend to agree... I have seen some of our finest and they dont look like they could do 20 meters with out doubling over having to get oxygen. And yeap.. some of the time I see them sitting and chatting instead of doing what they should be doing.. but also.. we need to have some self responsibilities also.. check out what our children are doing and make sure they are not adding to what is going on out there.. The police can not do it by themselves.. we have to help them do it... The task force would be a good thing...

i think it was someone who lived on the westside. maybe paki or julia07 who said something about calling in a suspicious white van.

thats a start.

and parents do need to look after their own kids.

it is just that the safety of this city is quickly deteriorating. something must be done.
Just look at the comments of residents in neighborhoods when the news interviews them after a crime has occured in the area.

the residents respond with, " this is nothing new. we know crime is here and it is not safe."

this is all over the city. San Antonio needs help now before things go completely bonkers.

overreacting? maybe

but at least i am bringing this to light and letting the truth be exposed.

Get a grip! The REASON it is newsworthy is because it is not the norm...

Crime is everywhere, and again, IF you said that these were 4 totally random murders, then I would be alarmed...but get the FACTS before you jump off your bridge.

This IS a big city, and things WILL happen...most of us choose to keep it in perspective. Again, I feel MUCH safer than if I were living in LA...traffic deaths are higher there and I am more likely to be a victim of a traffic accident than a murder because I do not prowl around at night, do drugs, club, go around drunk out of my mind, etc.

I think that IF you feel safer in LA, then you should consider enjoying all it has to offer...but some of us are HAPPY here.

I dont think he/she was stating that he/she was happier in LA. The point made was in the percentage comparison of killings in a bigger city then ours and we are having more deaths by homicide then a large city known for something like that. That in itself should be more noted then the fact those four deaths occured in one night and were newsworthy.. I could give three flips about that.. the fact that we had one death any night is more then we should have.. of course as you note.. those things will happen.. but maybe if it happened in your back yard you may have a different opinion of what he/she said.

The one where the guy was killed while defending his mother-in-law was the worst. Taking out someone that is doing the right thing deserves severe retribution and hopefully they get it. The woman shot in the head didn't have many details associated it and the other two were gang related. I applaud them killing themselves and I hope they keep it up. I did notice that most of them were kids/barely adults and hopefully their parents are proud of all the "effort" they put into raising them.

I'll have to side with the OP in being concerned. In the past 10 years, I've seen my neighbordhood decline (grafitti, crime, young people acting like idiots (profanity in front of my house, fights, etc)). I don't know what to do about it. I don't go out clubbing or partake of illegal substances, but I am increasingly concerned about what lies ahead from living in the same area as these types of people.

The murder statistics that the OP gave (comparing us to LA) are also a bit of a shock. I know from reading the news everyday that there is a lot more crime here than just a few years ago but wow - that's a scary number, esp. when you take into consideration that those are only murders - not stabbings, beatings, shootings, where no one actually died.

What should we do? I don't know... but understanding what is happening to our city is a good first step.

Hey.. what about theft? Anyone have any numbers on wether that is increasing? No murder involved .. just simple house break ins.. car break ins... how many of us have had our cars egged, scratched, windows broke? Stuff taken out of the car? Is that going up or down? All of that increases with the increase of the city.. and with what is going on in the economy... it is not going to get any better....

some idiot tried to break into my car and steal my radio, but i guess he was to retarded to get it out and just took off. ive been here for a week.

then again its much safer here than it was in milwaukee, where 3 people broke into our house trying to kill us because they thought we threw a paper plate at them... .. unfortunatly for them there was 10 of us so they left with bloody noses.
