My family is going to San Antonio next month for a vacation. Our hotel is on the Riverwalk. Where can someone recommend to go for pizza? I'm also wondering if there are any local microbrewery restaurants? We already have a big list of attractions and dining to check out, but could use some local input for pizza and a microbrewery.

Miss Ellie's Pizza is the BEST! It is off of 281 and E. Bitters. If you are going N on 281, exit Bitters, turn right and it's in the shopping center on the left.

If you're going to be downtown, the closest brew-pub is Blue Star Brewing Co. in the Blue Star Arts Complex in Southtown. You can catch one of the red trolleys, or a take 3 minute cab ride, or hoof it through the interesting Southtown/King William neighborhood. They usually have 4-6 beers of the day, and food is pretty decent.

San Antonio is not known for their pizza, and for good reason. The best of them is Goomba's though. Might I suggest looking for a good hamburger? You'll have much better luck and have something to write home about.

We're covered as far as burgers are concerned. My mother will be joining us on this vacation. She absolutely must have pizza or I'm sure we'll never hear the end of it.

Got it

You'll have to drive far for Goomba's

I've had Tano's downtown once, it was OK:

Just so there's no confusion, the trolleys are red, but it's the Blue Line you'll want VIA Metropolitan Transit

I second Blue Star for the beer. The food isn't 5-star, but it's good pub grub. Beer is great!

If you are looking for local and very casual - Main Street Pizza, San Antonio, Texas - Italian Food and Pizza

If you are looking for a "pizza wine bar" with flat bread options try - in the Quarry 29 Restaurant & Wine Bar :: Menu (http://www.20ninewine.com/menu.html - broken link)

or downtown - http://zincwine.com/boudros/menus/zincmenu.pdf (broken link)

If you are going with kiddos under say, 16 - I don't suggest the last two.
