I'm not surprised at the hassle you received from Sprint. When I was accounts payable, Sprint was one of the most difficult customers to deal with. I was so thankful when the company decided to ditch Sprint and go to AT&T. Sprint had the worst customer service of any of the thousands of customers we dealt with. They never followed through with corrections to bills, continued to slap on late charges when the bills had been paid, never seemed to correct the invoices like they said they were going to,etc.
I'm sorry you had to deal with all this over your defective phone. Good luck in choosing a new carrier.

Thanks Catriona....and thanks for reading my rant! I DID go off on a tangent last night, didn't I ? Sorry folks. It was just one of those days that went down hill.
The latest...the last rep I talked to last night was going to transfer me YET again to her supervisor. She at least alerted me to the fact that I would get a "recording". She said to leave a message to what time I wanted a return call. I was given the option (at 10:30 last night) that she would call me either before 12:15 (midnight) or after 3:30 TODAY. I asked why I couldn't talk to someone this morning. She said that the call was generated during THEIR shift and needed to be resolved by THEIR "team" which works from 3:30 to 12:15midnight.
TEAM? I have to work within THEIR team? What happened to taking care of the customer? They are putting SPRINT first....not the people that PAY them. I now am relegated to this TEAM in NEW MEXICO and have to spend my FRIDAY night waiting on THEM. I am dumbfounded that these companies have evolved to such ludicrous ways of doing business. Unbelievable!

I have to agree I had horrible customer service with Sprint. Anything from calling to ask a simple question to having phone issues, was a battle to get a straight answer. I was with them for 10 years and just recently switched to AT&T. I love the customer service and the overall plan that I have. My only reason for going with them is that my entire family is with AT&T. Therefore I can talk to them for free, which was my main reason of going with them. Otherwise I might have looked into a cheaper way of going - AT&T is not inexpensive at all. My service has been perfect and I am very impressed with my phone (Blackberry & my husband has a Treo).

I've been with Verizon for YEARS and have had great service. They have always worked to resolve any issues (all minor) in a very fast and courteous maner.

Just a quick update. Finally, after five days of customer DIS-service, I found a rep that was reasonable and helpful. Sadly that person was in their "cancellation" department. I wouldn't have had to go there if the company in general had a more "customer friendly" way of handling problems instead of rigid account limitations that no one but the wizard of Sprint can handle. It took filing a complaint about the one employee and requesting OUT to find that "nice" person. The happy news.....THEY allowed him to be released from his contract without financial penalty. Persistence pays off, but I would have been ok with staying with them if they didn't create so much anxiety and frustration. We honestly did not want to go to that level.

I too like Verizon and haven't had any major problems. When I feel like I'm getting the run-around with a problem, I just give sister-in-law and/or her husband a call and get the problem resolved. They both work upper management with Verizon so sometimes it's nice to have some "insiders" too.

OK, we're finally considering switching. We've had Sprint for years, and haven't had any major problems lately. Not in a few years really. But, the bill is pretty expensive! I have one phone on the SERO plan, and the other two on a shared plan.
Anyone know of any great deals with AT&T or Verizon? Texting, maybe internet access, etc...

I first had Sprint almost 10 years ago and it was disastrous from the get go. The cutsomer service is horrible and every month no matter how diligent I was about my minutes my bill seemed to get higher and higher every month. One day some what appeared to be "fly by night" cell company called Pocket came into town and when my Spring contract ended I took a gamble on this new Pocket company. I have never had any problems with the service. Its pretty simple, buy a phone, pay the flat rate every month, repeat. I did break a phone once and the replacement was a rather daunting ordeal so I would definitely suggest just buying a new phone cause the replacements are horrible. Other than that its been smooth sailing and Ive been w them about 2 yrs now.

For a cheap, local calling plan, I would recommend Cricket. I'm still kicking myself for dropping them and going to Pocket. I did it because Cricket was trying to charge me $10 a line to change something, and I thought that was pretty bogus, but if I could allow myself to grovel and go crawling back to them, I would. I never had a problem one with them, and it was a $35 unlimited everything plan. Granted, I couldn't travel out of TX with it for that rate, but I'm pretty much not on the road anymore anyway.
Did I tell you Pocket was abysmal? Dropped calls, no signal, terrible customer service. I'm miserable.

I have dropped calls out the wazoo, and I can't even get a signal when I'm at work. I'm glad it worked out for you. It's just not working for me.

I wonder if it has anything to do w the area you are in? I do have to admit when I try to use it in certain areas (mainly the SS) I tend to drop calls more often. But on the flip side I was dropping calls left and right on the Spring network too, and I had to call Sprint to credit those back to me.
Hopefully you found a company that is working out for you now!
