ok, so my girlfriend filed for a tax extension because she used to work at a dry cleaner here in town, but they have since closed shop and she could never obtain her W-2.

so now we're trying to make sure she files everything she can so that the IRS doesn't become her best friend...

having said all of this, who in San Antonio can help with tax questions like such?
where do I send her?

Since 12/31/2010 ended on a Friday, why doesn't she use the final checkstub? And do the same thing for 2011 if needed?

Your gf should include Form 4852 with her return. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4852.pdf

I am not sure who the best person to send her to in SA would be in response to your question. I tend to find a lot of answers to my questions on the IRS website.

This recommendation above is not to be taken as professional accounting advice. Good luck to you both!

Ask around with friends, find one that has a good personal accountant, and pay a few bucks for them to do it for you and cover yourself...

thanks, not holding you to anything. I found the form myself too, but with it drawing this close, I just wanted someone who knows what they're doing ensure that i'm not missing anything.

You may or may not want to go this route....Dave Ramsey (like him or not) is a pretty respected guy in financial circles and has an endorsed local provider program. If you are just starting at ground zero and don't want to randomly walk into a place, uncomfortable asking friends or family, you may want to try this.

This is not an endoresement of the service....though I know 2 people in other areas who used it with some success (not in Texas).

just an update, she can't find many of her check stubs, and that's what you need to correctly fill out the 4852. sooooo.....any other thoughts?

i'm going to try and ask a close friend as suggested, but just trying to reach out to the CD community as well.

Call the IRS directly, they'll tell you how to proceed. Or, go to our local IRS office. If you go to the IRS office, they'll have a record of what her employer reported for her earnings, which will enable her to file her taxes on the spot. (Have her take both her ID and Social Security card.)

you should find a CPA or tax law-type person then.

/not saying you shouldnt ask around, but if youre that concerned, pay a professional to do it for you and CYA!
