Default San Antonio tips the scale on America's 'Fattest Cities' list

Super disturbing article on the state of San Antonio--SA ranked nation's fattest city behind Las Vegas! With more fast food restaurants per capita than any other city, it's no wonder! And how many fitness centers?

Let's do something about this!

I don't doubt that SA has much much more than its share of heavy people, but as a scientist I question the validity of the measures that those studies rely upon (e.g., numbers per capita of fast food restaurants and fitness centers). I think that those measures may be more directly related to socioeconomic status, and this muddies the waters. There are other cultural factors that those studies do not take into consideration as well. Those studies are garbage.

Well said hello13685

A good pollster can skew the statistics any way they want the results to come out.

Most of those results, including crime statistics, political polls, opinion polls, etc... are not reliable sources. Too easily manipulated.

This is great news, we need more fat people, good for the economy (well, MY economy, as one of my businesses, a QSR franchise, caters to these fine folks). EAT AWAY, SAN ANTONIO!

"The magazine looked at how much residents are exercising, how much healthy food they eat, how much they use their gym memberships, the amount of junk food they consume, and the amount of time they spend sitting in traffic."

Does anyone know anybody that has ever participated in one of these fattest or fittest city surveys?

Maybe whenever the pollsters called a SA number, they couldn't understand the responder as it is hard to quote someone with food in their mouth.
So, they just put down that SA is the fattest city. Anyway, this is food for thought!

But one thing I believe they did not measure, was BODY WEIGHT (i.e., including how fat they are). I know it is next to impossible to get a valid sample for that, so they should just have left it alone. They should not have made a "body fat" claim.

I agree and disagree. When I first came to San Antonio I noticed the sheer amount of BIG people, but this is also noticeable in other places. However, I do think SA overall does not have a very health conscious pop.

Staying fit here is not as popular as it is in other places.
