It's that time of the year again... anyone have a good chimney sweep they can recommend? New house, we used the fireplace not a whole lot last year but would still like to have it swept once a year.

Of course cleanliness a must, but reasonable price important too.

We have a 20 yr old home we bought last year and we haven't used the fireplace yet. I decided to get it looked at due to the age of the home, etc... I used Aaron's and I was really pleased! The guy looked over our chimney and said it was already really clean. We have a double sided fireplace and he said that it's rare for folks to burn wood in them; usually just do gas, which it is equipped for.
He didn't charge us since it didn't need cleaning!! I sure appreciated his honesty!

If you have a metal chimney flu as most new homes do, then I would just do it yourself. In my last house I cleaned both chimneys myself. Very inexpensive and with a metal flu you don't have to worry about cracks in the clay like a masonry chimney. Lowe's sells the equipment needed.

How much is the equipment compared to the cost of having it done professionally? And does it require roof climbing? My knees aren't what they used to be...
