Meet up groups in S.A.
When your new to a town, want to meet new people is this a safe way to go? I would like some feed back!

Are you talking about the website Meetup.com ? I think this is a good way - however I've only participated in a highly monitored parent's group. A social group geared toward singles I'd be more apprehensive about. However, as with anything use common sense and take a buddy if you can (although I know you are new in town - maybe try and meet people through work, church or neighborhood first?)

What are you looking for? Interests, hobbies, etc? Meetup.com is a great start, but I'd go with someone or a coworker for your first meeting or two. Most meet in public places, so that's a little safer.

I'm an organizer for a meetup.com group, and attend several others. ALL of the ones I've been to have been fine.

For what? Have you checked out meetup.com? There are a few "oddball" groups, but even then it's the "birds of a feather" type thing going on. One's idea of a "loser" might just be what another is looking for.
Meetup.com is not a trolling sites for desperate singles. The groups are geared toward special interests....and gathering people for group activities, discussions, or business. Some are very large and active...others are very small and random. The OP can check it out and see how they vary.
I second or third checking out the meetup groups. The larger groups that meet during the day or early evenings are fairly safe. Great way to network and find people with similar interests! |
