Ok so I'm not from here. My sister is pregnant with her 4th child and is having some complications so I'm here taking care of her kids while she's in the hospital. They are boys 6, 4, and 1 1/2. Most days we go to the hospital to see their parents but the longer she's in there the more they need distractions. If anyone can suggest something they might like to do that's not too far/won't take all day or that is free so it doesn't matter how long it takes I'd really appreciate it! I think Thurs. night I'm gonna take them down to the Riverwalk to see the Christmas lights -- your town is much safer than mine!

Tuesday evening is free at the Witte museum - it has a kids treehouse thing. Witte Museum - Exhibits - Long Term Exhibits (http://www.wittemuseum.org/exhibits/longtermexhibits.html - broken link)
Our zoo is near Brackenridge park. There's a kids's science museum there - not sure the cost of either. Wild Texas Parks: Brackenridge Park - San Antonio, TX
Friday nights the Scobee planetarium has very cheap shows. The early show is just for younger kids - but there is an age limit, the baby won't be able to go. Scobee Planetarium at San Antonio College

Best wishes for your sister and family.

Thanks, but only the eldest would be able to go. No children 4/under. I don't have anyone to take the younger. Strange, the planaterium at home has shows for everyone, even a place for the very young

Don't forget the zoo! There is also a place called Tumbleweeds that is off 410 and Jackson Keller. I'm not sure if they have open play times yet-they are under new management. Very cool place though!

Why not take them to La Cantera? They have a little play area for children and you can also get some shopping in. It is a nice place to walk around and it could be free?

The Corn maze in Hondo, just about 20 minutes away, is great fun for kids in the fall. So is the Schlitterbahn Winter Festival before Christmas. Hiking if they are old enough, at Eisenhower or Fredrick Park.

I hear ya! My 4 year old had a meltdown last year next to a rack of $1500 jeans at SAKs. That I dont' recommend. My kids love to walk through the mall and it might be kind of neat since it is probably decorated? (I haven't been for a while, trying to show my financial restraint)

OH!!! That happened to my husband, too! So embarrassing, laying on the floor kicking and screaming, "WWWAAAAAAA!!!!! But I WANT them!!!!!!!"

(But he was prolly even more embarrassed, since it was his wife that had the meltdown. )
