Default Lost Maples

Anyone else heading out this coming weekend to see the beautiful colors? Now is the optimum time!! I'm braving the crowds since I've never been during autumn.

I noticed there was actually some color in Westcreek this weekend. I've never seen it here in SA; it's usually only the grass and it only changes from green to death

Omg- I haven't been since I was a kid! I wonder what the crowds are like during the week... like today & tomorrow. Think they'd be bad? Could I take my dog? I wonder if I'd be miserable.... (having a baby the end of this month.)

I think I'm going to check it out on Saturday. Is it really crowded on the weekends? The last time I saw a real color change was in Bosnia in 2005 and it was great.
Is the easiest way to get there going down 90 to 187?

I went right before I had my daughter last year and I actually had a really good time. My son and my husband went on a mini hike and I stayed behind preparing our lunch. It was really pleasant and the weather was perfect. Before baby might be the best time to go

I'm going with a group this coming weekend (Sunday). I'm new to this area, so I have no clue what crowds will be like.

Just a little public service announcement, since I think you mentioned a hike next weekend--be really careful near the water there. My former boss picked up a nasty, nasty little bug while running out there--they are thinking he had a tiny little open sore on his leg and some of the water splashed up on him as he ran through. He lost 10 pounds in 2 days, he was so sick. The water is pretty still there, so funky stuff has time to grow, I guess.

OK back to Lost Maples and the good stuff.......

Thanks for the warning. I'll be careful of the water, not that losing 10 pounds would be a bad thing

Lost Maples is so worth the drive. Thanks for the link Sapphire. I would think a week day trip would be ok as far as traffic. If it's the height of the color season the weekends could get busy. The only real problem would be parking....but if you're out for hiking, then that isn't that big of a deal.

We've done lots of wading in the water and didn't have problems. But any area with stagnant or low level pools and "warm" water could get nasty. I definitely agree to proceed with caution.

We were out there in the summer some time back and I saw my first centipede which was climbing the limestone embankment on the other side of the river. It was one of those huge centipedes with psychedelic colors! It really was amazing to see...but I'm so glad it was WAY over there. It had to be at least 8" long to see it from that distance.

They tend to go away in color weather, however.
