Default How 2 Afford a House in AHISD????

Hello,
Well, our kids are rapidly approaching school age & since we still haven't won the lotto, it's lookin' like my dreams of private school are just that - so - moving on to the next best thing, Alamo Heights gets all the kudos for great schools, right? But as far as I can tell from on-line real estate listings we'll have to move into basically an ugly old old old house to get in under 200K in 78209! Are there any other zip codes that are in AHISD? Are there any secret handshakes or ways to get my kids into AHISD & still find a decent home??? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!!
-jen

AHISD accepts a small number of tuition students each year - info is on their website.

You might want to look at the neighborhood north of 410 off Jones-Maltsberger - it is in AHISD, but I'm not sure the houses are in the price range you want.

Have you considered moving into a more moderately priced home and looking for a private school education? I live in a not so fantastic area, but my son goes to an excellent private school. (so far so good)

I am just curious, but where did you happen to get your information that the Alamo Heights district had such a superior record? I am just asking cause I would be interested in reading the information.

But there are other great schools and districts. I personally love NEISD, I have a friend who is very happy with Cibolo-Schertz. Why does it HAVE to be AHISD? There is a thread on here discussing whether AH is the best area for kids, very cliquish etc.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/san-a...vs-garner.html

It's talking more about the Jr. High but if you plan on staying in the area, it might be informational to you and your family.

Both Northeast and Northside have great schools...try looking at other districts and other schools. AHISD may be great...but there are other options. Just a thought.

If you REALLY have your heart set on the AISD schoold district, why don't you rent? There are apts in the area that I am sure you could find something...keep your current home, rent it out and suck it up and live in an apt if that particular school district is that appealing to you.

Seems like a lot to do, but I suppose if you think it cheaper than paying tuition for several kids, an option.

I personally think that parents sometimes put TOO much emphasis on the district...if your kid is not of the mindset to make the best of things, doesn't matter where they are...they will not bother. On the other hand, they can excel at anything they want from the worst of districts if the kid is so inclined. JMHO
