I've heard conflicting reports about this. On another site, a couple of posters claimed the tower was already under construction and had reached the 6th floor as of last month. That seemed kind of dubious, since a project of this scope in the Med Center would have surely received more attention if it really had started construction.
Is there a link where I could read about the tower cancellation?

The building you are referring to is under construction. It is across Floyd Curl Drive from the CTRC complex.

That is incorrect. The building under construction there is the Medical Arts and Research Center (MARC), which will consolidate the UT Medicine San Antonio (formerly University Physicians Group) practice. UTMSA is the private practice offshoot of UTHSCSA. This building is not the same building as the South Texas Research Facility, which was the planned 20 story research tower at UTHSCSA's main campus. The current plan for that building is to build a 5-6 story horizontal building along most of the frontage across the street from the MARC.

So is the MARC the 11-story structure I thought or another building altogether?

It isn't 11-stories, but yes that is it. There are only two buildings over 100,000/sf under construction in the medical center right now.

Here are some renderings of the proposed South Texas Research Facility, planned for the Greehey (North) Campus on Floyd Curl next to CTRC and across the street from the MARC building that's currently under construction.
