This is the site for the Vidorra I. A second 22 story tower is in the works with the city and developers. Depending on sales of the first tower a second will be built. Not much activity yet but that will change with groundbreaking later this month, I believe.
215 Center Street - San Antonio, TeXaS

This is the Staybridge @ St. Paul Square. A 13 stroy hotel facing downtown to the west. As you can see its already topped out. Completion of the project at best is late mid to 4th quarter 2007.

This is the 34-story 1,000 room Grand Hyatt Hotel & Convention Center in San Antonio. Slated for an early 2008 opening it the biggest downtown project to hit the city in almost 15yrs!! Yikes!! Groundbreaking was back in Oct. 2006 and making good progress. Top out will be in the area of 450 ft. Not a 1,000 footer or a 700 but, for San Antonio we'll take what we can get.
During the day

At night

You can see the Staybridge in the back ground.....Look cee

Across IH-37....you can see it from ground leval now! !

Up close and personal

Riding down IH-37 south...the best view..i think

Other structures currently being constructed:

17-story hotel under construction at St. Mary’s and College St.
14-story apartment complex at Santa Rosa St. between Houston St. and Commerce.
13-story condo mid-rise at Houston St. and Soledad St.

There are taller buildings proposed just not under construction yet.

Other news:

A 300 foot hotel-condo high-rise is proposed for the old Hollywood Planet site. Plans are to demolish the building and build on the entire block. The parking lot facing Commerce at Navarro St. is also part of that block and will be made the entrance to the high-rise.

River North is beginning to fire up. Kell-Munoz Architects is putting an office at Broadway and Jones Ave. They will renovate an old building. There is also a proposed 5-story mixed use development proposed at Brooklyn Ave. and St. Mary’s.

Default im wrong

The Vistana, 14 stories of timeless art deco architecture on a full city block, is located in the heart of downtown San Antonio at 100 N. Santa Rosa Street, between Houston and Commerce Streets. The Vistana will feature 246 market-rate rental apartment homes, with great vistas of the city, first floor retail and a 4-level parking garage. This 530,000 square foot building is expected to open in late Spring 2008.

Just wish instead of taking up a city block it would have been say 7 or 8 stroies higher so you get a high rise felling from it. O well.

You must have this on your clipboard for easy access. No matter how many times you ask, young man, you are just not going to wear us down!! We are not going to get any 50 story plus buildings because we do quite well without them.

Default patience. they will come

Moderator cut: inappropriate There is no wrong in being interested in vertical development for San Antonio. Suburban sprawl is not the answer for this city. Neither is living in tract housing subdivisions 25 miles away and tying up the freeways and roads from the rest of us that DO live in an urban setting.

Anyway, now that I got that off my chest, Imaterry,to answer your question, River North just north of downtown plans at least 5000 condos and apartments with a few 20-30 story thrown in the mix. This plan includes at least a couple of hotels. At&T is also looking/studying a parcel of land in River North to cosolidate their local operations into one tower. Also Frost Bank is looking to build a new facility across the present location to the north. Based on various sources on design and studies, both of these companies look to build 30-40 story structures to accomadate expected growth. Andres Andujar would know for sure as he is an excellent source.

Don't look for anything to happen for at least 5-10 years down the road as the River North project is completed and matures. But just you wait as there are definitely plans for dowtown as well as uptown/Broadway corridors.

Default some info

A 20-story tower is proposed, however this all depends on how much the state is willing to allocate as far as federal funding is concerned. This project is actually in 3-phases (10 year term). The first is actually supposed to begin later this year with completion around 2010-11.
