I live near Bradley Middle School. Our power flickered several times that evening and then went out for about 30-40 minutes. I understand that the power was out in a very large area that evening--my neighbour drove by when we were standing outside and said it was out all the way to Bitters. I'm really writing because I have seen that flash before--not on the 3rd but months ago ( I can't remember the time). We were leaving Luby's at 1604 and Blanco one evening and my husband and I both saw several huge flashes. We were facing south and they looked like they came from the south. They were like photo flashes, but HUGE, like they lit up the whole sky. My scientist husband just threw a wet blanket on my speculation and said that if a transformer blew it would produce a big spark, but I think it was something weirder!

I would have assumed the same about a transformer, which is why I thought maybe it was one of those power plants that are scattered about the area. There is something at West Ave & Bitters, but I don't remember if it is a SAWS installation or one for CPS.

So, Lizzie, what does your scientist hubby think it was? What you described you both saw months ago is exactly what we saw last week. My hubby thought at first it was a plane that went down, or even an explosion at one of the construction sites out there. It is just so strange that there was nothing reported about it anywhere!

Did anyone see something similar this morning? I saw what appeared to be the same thing around 7 or 7:05 this morning. I was eastbound on Wurzbach Parkway going towards I-35 near the intersection of Thousand Oaks and it was south of me. Same blue-ish light, looked like it originated from the ground, but lasted too long to be lightning. I thought for a second maybe someone had turned on and of the search light at the topless bar near I-35 and Starlight, but that seems unlikely and it was too bright and blue. It was kind of scary, and I didn't hear or feel anything, just saw it. It definitely looked like electric light. I've never seen it before and am not sure if there was any power outages in the area, but I am surprised not to find anything about it on the internet yet....

Did anyone see that short green guy with huge eyes, eight fingers on each hand and bald head hitchhiking on the southwest corner of 1604 and 281 yesterday morning. No way I'd give that dude a ride!

I didn't see it this morning, but I did just see it a while ago, along with my roomate. I'd say around 9:15pm. Very bright, greenish blue. I'm at jackson keller/vance jackson, and was facing down 410 toward northstar. Wow...I'll keep looking to see if anyone else knows what it was.

We were leaving Bradley MS and saw two enormous bright flashes in the sky.
Anyone?
As long as they're not followed by mushroom clouds, I wouldn't worry too much about them.

Hi, I live in Los Angeles. On March 10th, 2009 @ around 7:45pm. I was heading west. While I was waiting for a traffic light to turn green, I see a bright flash in the sky. I can tell it from quite a distance and the whole sky that i can see is bright all the sudden. It didn't last for long, just for a few seconds. As I remember, the light source is rather low, it doesn't feel like, it's lightning. I have attempted to look for information about it, but nothing so far... I want to know what's that light about.

Most likely transformers as I've witnessed it in Brownsville. It was also blueish in color. The bright flash was very far away and low in the sky. Then, sometime later, I saw it happen in from of me as a transformer blew with a blindingly bright blueish flash. You could probably see it from space being that bright.

Definately a transformer. They have tens of thousands of volts and loads of current.

If you're still skeptical that a blown transfomer, even a small one, can't produce a spectacular light show, check out these clips from people who caught them on video.

Thanks for posting the links. I think that is exactly what we saw that night last fall.
