We had a little hummingbird who also had a nest in our tree. She would fly down and eat then fly up in the tree to be with her babies. It was really cute, I liked to watch her. I had birdseed out last year for the birds, but doggone if those HUGE morning doves didn't sit on my feeder and eat an entire feeder of food every day!!! So, I need to figure out how to stop THAT this year.

Here is a great website that gives you the recipe for making your own feeder food, and gives you all the do's and dont's for your feeders...some of which I was guilty of until I read that it was not good for them. ( I admit it, I added MORE sugar to try and attract them...bad for the little guys it turns out...)

hummingbird nectar

If you want to keep them happy and healthy these are good tips. The other thing I read was do NOT use water softner water...so my babies get my bottled H2O instead.

We got a good look at a hummingbird nest when we visited McKinney Falls last weekend. They're so tiny!
