Default Building permit required for free standing deck?

I've poked around the Bexar County web site and didn't really find any clear instructions on the matter or who is really responsible for issuing them so I could call?

Anyone have any experience building one?

mike

The cities issue building permits....SA, Alamo Heights, Helotes, Shertz etc

City of SA has a very comprehensive web site. Good luck!

I don't live in the city limits so I'm pretty sure it would be done through the county.

I'm sorry I didn't realize you were out of the city limits....you are probably right. Are you in Bexar County? You still might want to call the SA city permit office and ask them for the correct county office. Please check back if you find out. Someone else may need this info!

I'm not totally sure, but I don't believe there is a permit required. Counties in Texas have limited powers and generally they are only health and safety issues, such as septic systems, fire codes, etc. No building permits unless you are within an incorporated city. The county's website is pretty comprehensive as far as the services they perform. Chances are if you weren't able to find a page for the what you were looking for, that department doesn't exist.
