Can't rep you yet but this is a good reminder! I actually turned ours on a couple of weeks ago to make sure it worked and it set the fire alarm off! Scary stuff.

Is this cleaning something you can do yourself, or does it take a professional?
I've paid folks to come "service" my A/C unit only to have them turn it on/off, vacuum some dust out of a few vents, shine a flashlight in the outside unit and charge me $85 for their trouble!

I would have a pro do it. Our A/C guy spends at least an hour servicing our units.

Same here...go with the pros. Ours also does all kinds of checks on all the hoses, valves, and whatever else there is that makes those things work. We had both our units serviced last month and it cost about $160ish or so and the guy was here for about 3 hours.
