Down here we say Lan-O. The funniest thing I've ever heard is when a northerner called it La-Lan-O.

For those of us that are from SA, but attended Southwest Texas in San Marcos, you probably got crossways on pronouncing things with and without Spanish accents. It seems like they do everything backwards with their residence halls. If in SA we don't use an accent, they do, and vice versa.

Okay, this is something that drives me CRAZY! Why in the world does Taco Cabana, a Mexican restaurant pronounce cabana like kuh-ban-uh, instead of kuh-bawn-uh? It's Mexican, why not pronounce it as such! It truly drives me crazy and I refuse to use the kuh-ban-u version. It just isn't right! Are we supposed to pronounce Los Barrios like los berry-ose? Come on!!

Burnt?

I've always heard it as Burn-it. I was corrected when I called it Burnett (as in Carol).

Speaking of San Marcos.....I had a few people outside the area correct me and say it's San "Mar-KOS" ....instead of San "MAR-cus".

And on Taco Cabana? When I drive through to one close to me, they just say...."Welcome to "Ta-co-ba-na"!!! LOL!!!! (I am NOT kidding!) My whole family calls it that now.

Sapphire...that's the way I've been told to say it. Emphasis on the first syllable.
BURN-it.

Thanks SATX! I have seen bits and pieces of some of that info, but not all at once. Nice link!

Speaking of pronunciations from that link....Koehler Park is pronounce KAY-ler.

McCullough is Mc Cull-uh....not McCullOW.

There are just so many that we get used to as locals that we forget some are
???? to our new residents.
