Oh, my! son PEE drow?! I grew up in San Antonio and lived there until a year ago. The pronunciation I always heard was SAHN PE (short e) DROW.

Default San Pedro?

Well, I'd pronounce it, "San PAY-droh." I've never heard "San" pronounced "Son." Think San Diego, San Francisco, etc.

I wonder if this thread inspired the Cavender Cadillac radio commercial about pronunciation? I do believe that all of the examples it contains are included in the commercial.

well, thank goodness i learned the correct pronunciation before HUEbner was fully engulfed in my brain...or...WEABner using a Spanish translation.

Now all I have to do is drop the "THE" from highway numbers and I am nearly good to go.

San PEEdro is a also community in Los Angeles, and I cannot break myself of saying it that way.

Now, let's talk about how to pronounce Ximeno, a street in Long Beach. LOL

Ok...ok...slightly OT, but not the first sentence. HAHA

That reminds me of something I read on another forum today about someone thinking that when someone said El Mercado they were saying Elmer Cado. "Who is this guy, Elmer Cado. He must really be a big shot here in San Antone. I sure here his name alot".

It must be a small world....I just moved into an apartment on this street after selling my home in the Inland Empire and waiting on my home to finish building in San Antonio. I have no idea what the correct pronunciation is.

Anyway, when I move to SA, my wife and I will have a lot of pronunciations to learn and we'll definitely have to work on not saying "the" in front of all the highway numbers!
