Good Tex-Mex is worth the drive, no matter what side of town it is on!
Cheers! M2

Yep ITA!
I used to drive to the NSide to eat at Longhorn Cafe cause the burgers IMO were off the hook.

Me neither. I would never recommend a place to anyone on this board where I thought they might be in danger. The place on Culebra I recommended is next to a public library and across the street from St. Mary's - if you go there at lunch it's a mix of students, faculty and workers from nearby businesses. That part of Culebra is poor/working class and fairly rundown, but it's not particularly dangerous.

Try El Mirador on St. Mary's, near the King William Area for good Tex-mex. I remember when it was a true hole in the wall...before they became well known for their soups.

Rita's Fiesta Cafe -612 Bandera (I recommend the caldo de pollo)
Elizabeth's at Timberhill and Grissom
Henry's Puffy Tacos (good call!)
Beto's -8142 Broadway (Best empanadas and super delicious black bean soup).
Los Barrios -4223 Blanco
Alamo Cafe (I-10 Huebner frontage or 281N Oak Shadow/Winding Way frontage)

For good old school Tex Mex on the northwest side,
I recommend La Fonda Oak Hills.
La Fonda Oak Hills
Or...
Jacala.

I like Ritas on Bandera outside the loop a mile or two. they now have one at lockhill selma and west ave but prices were 50% more. And Los Robertos near Bitters and 218 has great al pastor tacos. of course, thats more central than nw.
