Foreign Currency Exchange in SA?
Does anybody here know of a place where I can purchase foreign currency and leave with the physical bills here in San Antonio? I know that Travelex is very convenient in the aiports and whatnot... but their rates are ridiculous!

You can get them from your bank.
I always ATM once I reach my destination... I've found I get the best rate and lowest fees that way.

Yes, you can get them from your bank. You will need to make sure that they have the bills in stock, though. Sometimes they will need to be ordered, depending on the currency. The smaller branches seem to carry less foreign currency. Give them a call before you go.
Depending on what type of relationship you have with the bank, you may not have to pay any fees whatsoever.

The last time I was in Europe, I used the ATM as usual. when I got home, I found I was charged a 4% fee for each use. that was new. Using an ATM still works, just be aware they charge fees for it now.
I know Frost Bank has foreign money. You may have to order it if it's not Mexican. They stock Pesos, not Euros or Yen.

The Frost Bank down town location...you wont have a waiting time like some other banks your in and out with the money you need. Thats really the only place in San Antonio that has the service. The only thing is they do have a $5 service charge if you do not have an acct with them. Just make sure you get your ticket stamp so you dont have to pay for parking

Not every bank does it. I tried to exchange some currency at Jefferson Bank once and they referred me to Frost. I was able to do it at the Blanco/1604 Frost branch, so you shouldn't have to go downtown for this if you have a Frost branch closer to you than downtown.

Check with your bank to see if they charge a rate in int'l ATMs and what it is, if you don't like it, call and ask for a reduction!!! This is generally your best bet to get a good exchange rate -- do it when you get off the plane (if in Europe). There will be ATMs conveniently and abundantly located in most major airports.
