Ideas for "made in San Antonio" Christmas gifts
Since we are new to this wonderful city, I want to send something made locally out to the relatives for the holidays. Most of our families are in other states & only a few have been here before.
Also, we have moved around quite a bit & we've done this in the past & the familiy seems to enjoy it.
i.e. the first year we were stationed in N.J. we sent nice boxes of salt water taffy, made at a place by the ocean which was very close to the base where we were stationed.
Do any of you have ideas along those lines of things we can send from here that are not SUPER expensive?
THANK YOU in advance for any suggestions you have

You might put together a goodie box with some products made here....like Rudy's BBQ sauce, Pace Picante etc. Mi Tierra's has awesome Mexican pastries/candies....that kind of thing. I'm sure others can think of more items "home grown" in SA. Obviously Pace is sold across the country and owned by Campbells, but the recipe was literally "home grown" in this area.

Shipping will be expensive but the ultimate "Made in San Antonio" Christmas gift would be a few dozen Tamales along with the things Wcat mentioned.

I always send the family on the East coast fresh fruit from the Valley. Every year they get something different, oranges or grapefruit or a mix. they are grown locally, albiet in the valley, but they always enjoy it. There are companies who send out catalogs. If you can't find one, PM me and I will send you the name and # of who I use.

There is a nice Texas shop at the Lackland BX (Base Exchange, for those non-military folks out there; pretty much a WalMart on base), we shop there a lot of Texan gifts. They are not always "made" in Texas, but they do represent the state and so far everyone has liked what we sent.
To be honest, I can't recall if the Ft Sam PX (Post Exchange, because it is Army) has a similar shop or not; as we don't get over there too often...same for Randolph.
Cheers! M2

How about some of the homemade cookies/pastries that nearly every Mexican restaurant has wrapped up at their register area? And the pecan candies!!

I always have to bring a few bottles of Rudy's sause when I visit friends in SoCal. My co-workers out there have also learned that the hastily wrapped bottle at the company Christmas party's white elephant gift exchange isn't a bottle of wine.

I like Santitos Salsa. I've only found it at local HEB stores and it's made in San Antonio.
Rudy's is always a winner for my family, too. At least it was until they realized they could buy it online! Now I have to rethink my gift list!!
Hit First Friday downtown or the Houston Street Fair for some local crafts, and maybe check out El Mercado downtown. I've thought of making some neat coasters and things out of Mexican tiles and stuff I've gotten from there.
