A News 4 viewer found photos of San Antonio Police Officers posing with several young women on a MySpace page.
SAN ANTONIO -- Some SAPD officers could be in big trouble because questionable pictures surfaced on the Internet. Now, an internal investigation has been launched by police officials into why officers posed in racy pictures with a group of women.
The pictures were sent to News 4 Trouble Shooters by a concerned viewer who wants to remain anonymous. He said he found them on a MySpace profile and while we have not been able to locate that account we do know SAPD is taking the pictures very seriously.
News 4 Trouble Shooter Mireya Villarreal took those pictures directly to the chief.
SAPD Chief Bill McManus says the pictures are "very disturbing. Absolutely disturbing."
The officers are in uniform and seemingly posing for the photos. In one the photos, several women are gathered around an officer. One of the girls looks like she is grabbing and biting a bike patrolman while he looks on. There are others as well. Police say the officers involved have been identified.
Chief McManus promises "We've already forwarded it to Internal Affairs for an investigation. The investigation will be very thorough and we're not going to waste a whole lot of time doing it."

Yes....saw that story. Obviously these officers would not be considered SAPD's "finest".

Right,
if they are "the finest", then what should we expect about everybody else?

Yeah, well, bad taste doesn't equal bad cop. Getting drunk, and not breaking the law doesn't equal bad cop... tasteless pictures doesn't equal bad cop... nothing like that makes someone incapable of their job. They didn't do anything illegal. Just because they have bad taste doesn't mean they're incapable of enforcing laws. This has little to do with their job performance or even how dedicated they are to keeping us safe. Most of us, at some point, and done something tasteless and have just been lucky enough that it wasn't posted on myspace. It's not like the crimal asks before being arrested, "Do you have a clean myspace page? If not, you can't arrest me."

did you see the pictures dmarie123? Cops in uniform cannot be allowed to pose for pictures like that. There's nothing wrong with standing next to a civilian tourist for a picture, but some of these were raunchy to say the least.. they're on woai.com

i do agree with dmarie that having poor taste does not mean that this officer cannot do his job when it comes time to enforce the law...

with that being said, i also agree that as a man or woman in uniform...one that is, in essence, representing San Antonio...one should hold themselves to higher standards and should be able to not put themselves in that sort of situation...

as many of you know dh is a San Antonio Police Officer with the Parks Divsion...he is stationed downtown on the riverwalk and rides a bike jus as the officer in the pictures does...one cannot believe the number of propositions my husband or his friends get from drunk (sometimes sober) women (sometimes men), whether these people are locals or tourists, it never ceases to amaze me...i have been on the phone many times with dh late at night and i have heard the things people offer, yell out to him, ask of him...anything from asking my husband if he is married, some saying they don't care when he says yes, some asking him for a private escort back to their rooms, some trying to slip him their hotel key...it's awful...

my husband knows that when he puts on that uniform and straps on that gun belt that there comes a certain responsibility, not only for protecting the citizens but for also setting an example and representing San Antonio in the best possible way...

keep in mind that these officers are asked for photos all the time, for some reason the tourists especially get a kick out of getting pictures with the local cops, these requests are constant, but that does not make it okay to pose the way this officer did...i would only hope the he has better judgement when approached again...

Wow,
I'm sorry... I didn't realize that they were in uniform. I amend what I said. If they are in uniform I agree that it is a huge disciplinary issue. It shows a lack of standards while ON the job... versus bad taste in their personal life.
