I work around the Alamo Downs area by 410 and Culebra ... There is a stray white female dog that walks around the Bill Millers parking lot between there and the hotel. I usually go to break around 10am and go through the drive through at Bills... I noticed her around a month ago.. so I started ordering her a brisket taco when i went (everyday weekday) ... and on the weekends ..i would stop by same time to give her food and water when no one was around. She slowly came to me recently...I have a yorkshire terrier at my apartment already and wanted to help her somehow..
Today ..same time as usual (10am) I went to Bills to buy her a brisket tco and noticed the animal care srvcs truck ... My heart sank to my chest..i looked up to see her laying down a few feet away from the spot I meet her at.. she was asleep and not aware of anything..i saw the control man come at her and threw the rope around her neck and she was trying to break free...she looked helpless and scared, I had to leave the line and go back to work... I have never cried as a man for anything..but that ended today.. I CRIED until my break was up..
I was already in the process of trying to locate a place where i can keep her until my housing situation improves.. and now..that will not happen. I know animal care will prob. euth. her...i am trying to find a place now that will not kill her....does anyone know any place that will take her and is a no kill..please ..if it means me cutting back on something in my budget to sponser ..i will. thanks...

You should call animal services with the location where she was found. They will not kill her right away, I don't think, unless she has major medical issues. That's really heartbreaking. Perhaps you'll be able to state that you have an interest in adopting her and convince then to hold on her for longer than the usual time while you figure it out. I don't know. I don't think there is instant euthanizing going on, but who knows.

That is sad and I wish I could help. I also wish there were more people like you and less irresponsible jerks that throw away animals. Hopefully things will work out for her in the end and she'll get to live a good life.

I see most of those "beggars" as professionals, mostly because they are. I've seen and read numerous pieces on them and I won't give them a dime anymore. Now lately I've been seeing people on the news picking up free turkeys and they didn't exactly look like they were hurting for money. Some were dressed in professional looking clothes and some were even wearing medical smocks. Last I checked, the medical field was a pretty well paying one. I have lost faith in most adults and really don't care what happens to them anymore.
On the other hand, domesticated animals are at the mercy of their owners. They can't go to school or get a better paying job. They're completely dependent on us and we often-times fail them. Very few things pi$$ me off more than this subject and I feel sorry for anyone I ever catch abusing or throwing away one..

There is also a stray cat over there that I couldn't catch. He's in a bush by the Red Roof Inn, and he's afraid of people, rightly so, I guess. I even had the lady at the Nine Lives Bookstore try to go get him, to no avail. I haven't been back by, so I hope he's OK.

you may have come to the right place actually
it wouldn't be the first time a dog's life was saved because of someone on C-D. Maybe posting a picture of her would help. I wish you luck.

Keep us posted. Maybe if you've got some spare time you can offer to volunteer some hours if they might be able to keep her a little longer past Dec 3. I don't know how receptive they would be to that, but the worst they can say is no right?

God Bless you for caring! I wish there were more like you. I'll have both you and Hope in my prayers for a Thanksgiving miracle. If I could, I'd take her in a heartbeat.
