I will be moving to the San Antonio area within six months and was wandering if you can be your own general contractor to build a house. I know you can do it here in Pensacola FL. If anyone knows either way I would appreciate it and if not if you know of any reasonably priced contractors. appoximately $70 to $85 a sq. ft.

You mean like a Help-U-build type thing?

Where you get the separate contractors and are in charge of it yourself?
If so then the answer is yes.

Be sure and talk to the city or jurisdiction where you will be living. They will be able to give you information regarding what you can and can't do. Some local municipalities require licensing for things like plumbing and electrical. It depends on where. Areas in the county outside of city limits are sometimes more lenient. Good luck and welcome from Pensacola! I have family there!!
