Moving to the San Antonio area from Michigan
Hello,
My husband and I and our 5 year old daughter are moving to the San Antonio area in August, 2006. We will first rent an apartment for a few months until we can find the house that we like.
Does anyone have any ideas about areas with nice apartments, but not extremely expensive in Boerne or New Braunfels? We did a lot of research, but I would like to hear what you guys can tell me about certain areas that you know are nice.
Also, how is life in Texas? I can't wait to move , since I really do not like Michigan at all .
Thank you,
Gabriela

You will really really enjoy Boerne.
It's a small town on the crisp of city-dom.
It still holds its small town charm with its shops and really friendly enviroment.
Creekside in Boerne has apartments (2 bedrooms/900 sq. ft.) between 630 and 650 dollars a month.

Thank you for your reply.
We were actually considering Creekside as well. Can you tell me what is around Creekside? Is this located in a neighborhood with houses? Or is it located by a major road near stores etc?
Also, I read your other reply to my question in relation to the weather. I had the impression there was no snow in SA, but still it is very good compared to Michigan
Thanks

There pretty much isn't.
Two times in the last 20+ years and one of the times it was barely felt or seen.

210,
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to all my questions.
I have one more question about the economic differences between SA and Michigan. I have heard that cost of living is lower in SA, compared to Michigan (I found this from citi data). Generally, how much do cars cost compared to the rest of the country? How about car insurance, generally speaking?I am curious, because I was not able to find this information on line.
Thanks again

Insurance is gudge mainly by a drivers history.
If you have a great history you won't pay too much.
As for price of cars, they're pretty much all the same (in terms of new cars) all over the country because the price is regulated by the automotive companies (Ford, GM, Toyota, etc) and not by the dealerships.
Sure you might get a better deal here or here compared to another state but generally there's no big difference.

City income taxes?
I have a question regarding taxes. I know there is no state income tax, what about at the city level? Does San Antonion have city income taxes?
I researched this a lot, and I have not found anything about this. I did notice though that real estate agents advertise houses outside San Antonio as and advantage due to the "no city taxes". What do they mean by this?
Thanks
Gabriela

Gabriela,
I have never been to Michigan, but I've been to Chicago. The differences between weather, culture and cost of living are large. We went to Chicago in August and I thought I would freeze. It never got above 80. Around San Antonio it barely gets below 80 in the summer. Winter is very warm and snow is a rare thing. I found people to be generally friendly in Chicago, but not as relaxed as us "Southerners". Just different. I was also amazed at how expensive things were up there. Houses in particular. Still, it was a nice place to visit. The corner grocery stores were charming.
