Default Who in the heck would steal Poinsetta's???

Every year my mom buys 12 Poinsetta plants and puts them in her front yard planter ...

My parents yard has an outside gas light post and this year mom put 4 of her poinsetta's around the bottom of the post...

This morning she looks out the window and finds that the 4 around the post were gone --- they were still in the pots and she had staked them into the ground --- but here is the kicker, she has an iron fence that runs around the whole yard and the gates are locked w/ master key locks ---

So whoever took them had to have either laid on the ground and stuck their hand in and pulled them out thru the bars, hence the broken poinsetta limbs or they jumped over the fence...but given the broken limbs i would assume they pulled them thru the fence...there were also broken limbs at my aunts house next door...

Ok, i know we are in some tough economic times right now but really, stealing poinsetta's??? they are all of what $4 bucks a plant??? heck, i got mine for 99cent each the day after Thanksgiving at Home Depot...

Even if it's nailed down, some people will steal anything. I had the blowup figures stolen from my yard last year. 5 of them. ripped right out. so much for outdoor decorations. It's a shame the world has deteriorated to this.

i agree --- at our old house dh and i had a large yard thingy --- it was a huge texas and it said Merry Christmas Ya'll in the center --- dh and i worked for 2 nights stringing the lights just right and we zip tied each one down so that they all ran the same way --- we also outlined in blue lights with white tips and the words were outlined in red and green lights...it was soooo cute...

we had it for 1 year for sure and i think it was either the 2nd or 3rd year that it was gone, right out of the ground, stakes and all...oh, but they were nice enough to leave our extension cord...jerks!!!

You're right. I think we're only going see it get worse the worse that the economy gets. People are desperate to maintain the lifestyle their used to even if their bank accounts can't support it. Whether it's something as big a thing as stealing a GPS from someone's car or even robbing a bank, down to something so simple as stealing your poor mom's poinsettias. It's our generation, we're a gotta have it generation, unfortunately for some folks, that gotta have it mentality is at any cost. Just remember, karma is a very real thing, one day someone will take something valuable from those dirty thieves too.

What a bunch of jerks. Your mom probably went to the trouble to pick through the plants to get the ones that looked "just right" and then these fiends go and steal them. Well, at least the stolen plants won't look as good as the ones your mom put out, given that they broke the branches stealing them.

I'm afraid MTI Wife is right about the correlation between the economy and thefts. I'm still going to put out the yard deer and signs, and hey, if they get stolen, then so be it. We can't live in fear, just try to keep our things safe. People have been stealing Christmas decorations for years. Back in the 60's, someone stole our lights down from the eves of the house and from other houses on our street. No different today. I saw a couple who had their blowup decorations stolen the other night on TV. The dad looked and sounded as if he were about to cry, not because the thieves stole the decorations, but because he didn't want his young children to be hurt by what had happened. Lets hope karma catches up with those jerks, too.
