great! thanks! i will definitely go check those towns out, if i decide to work at Lackland...
still trying to decide between San Antonio area or Panhandle (Amarillo/Pampa) or West Texas (Lubbock)
too many choices cuz Texas has so many good places!!! but i have until Aug/Sept to decide. my lease is up Sept 30.

Bandera is a big cowboy town too but that's a bit further north and you'd have to fight the traffic on Bandera Rd (Hwy 16) each way which would be a nightmare at times.

Blanco is very nice but totally out of the question if you want to be commuting within an hour or so to and from Lackland.

Default "Cowboy'd up" towns

Having lived in Atascosa county for several years, I can definately attest to Jourdanton and Pleasanton being quite "cowboy up"! Kids in the local schools are heavily involved in 4-H and FFA, participate in the local and San Antonio stock shows, etc. As a matter of fact, most of the schools have days of for stock shows. Homes are still relatively inexpensive, yet prices are increasing due to the proximity to the Toyota plant. Commute to Lackland is well under an hour (my husband works at Kelly USA and his commute was about 40 to 45 minutes). Dress of the day is Wranglers, boots, big belt buckles, Carhart jackets, etc. Very "cowboy friendly".

Bandera has much more of an Old West Cowboy flair, but the commute to Lackland would be horrendous, as was mentioned. Probably well over an hour.

D'Hanis and Hondo. I have a ranch in Hondo, great place to "CowBoy UP!".
I have a whole list of realtors in the area, most of them do not put their listings in the MLS because it's more for the city.

Also, might add I work at Lackland and it takes me from the middle of Hondo to Lackland back gate 33 minutes. D'Hanis probably 45 minutes.
