Churches and Fireworks?
Why are these churches keeping quiet about people breaking the law. It's is still illegal to have or use in the city limits/county.
I guess it just comes down to the Benjamins.

I don't think they should get anything, assuming that the disaster relief money is to be used to repair physical damage due to some incident. It's not like a burn ban goes into effect to get at industry or business - it's for public safety. That trumps the interest of fireworks stands.

I agree. I'm sorry people are out money but this is for safety. What if there's a bunch of fires? Can we sue them if houses get burned down and people die?

Bowie said (among others): "If there is a settlement, I'd like to see the fireworks companies cough up some money to cover the out-of-pocket costs of fighting fires started by their products."

Would you like to see the same thing from gun/bullet manufactures? Not sure I see how this is any different.

I would think that the churches and others that use this for fundraising would have a backup plan. It isn't like a fire ban is unheard of around here. Better safe than sorry.

It is a lot different. The gun/bullet manufacturers are not suing anyone.

If the churches and people running the stands do make money off the fireworks, then why are they not speaking out? Just how many churches use fireworks sales for revenue? I understand if individual people run the stants to make money, but an entity such as a church should have several sources of income, not just depend on a windfall from the sale of fireworks. Still sounds like the fireworks company is using this as an excuse to file a lawsuit. Besides, as mentioned previously, the burn ban which resulted in the ban on fireworks is for public safety.

I hope this case gets tossed out. If not, I hope that the firework buying public remember this 'buy out' and chose to boycott fireworks when they are allowed again. It is shameful that a company puts their profit margin above public safety.

I didn't hear the interview this morning, but I am wondering why the county didn't come up with a compromise with the so called 'safe zones'. Why did Alamo have to resort to taking the city to court? Oh, and does the city plan to have it's New Year's Eve celebration downtown complete with fireworks, or does the ban include that, too? To be fair, if they are banned, that should include the city's celebration.

I hope that Medina Co and Bandera Co step up to the plate and ban them too.
