Default Caterpillar manufacturing plant will move to Seguin

Some very good job news for the San Antonio area. And no, it's not that kind of caterpillar.

Quote:
Texas officials announced Caterpillar, Inc. is moving one of its primary global assembly, test, and paint facilities to Seguin. According to a written statement from the City of Seguin, the project is expected to create 1,400 jobs.

That's great. Seguin needs some revitalization.

A definite positive in a sea of job losses. Interesting, how Texas beat out Mexico as in the past so many jobs have been lost to Mexico. Also, good to see Texas is fighting to keep/create jobs in this state.

The drug violence is killing Mexico in more ways than one..no pun intended. Most American senior management (of which, I am one) do not want to make the trip over to the Mexican job sites any longer..especially to the border towns of Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana etc..) I know that we've decided to place a moratorium on all travel to Mexico until things cool down (if they cool down).

Probably a combination of the above 2 posts. I'll find out more soon, as CAT is a client of ours.

Here's a link to a story on WOAI's web site explaining how to apply for jobs at the Caterpillar plant.

Yes, but its mainly the Unions from the north. They are taking over 800 jobs from Ill and another 400 from SC plant. The Torreon plant in Mexico will still ship parts here to Seguin, and they will be assembled here. The engines, mostly, are still being built in Italy though. The opening of the plant won't officially be until @ 2011. We are supplying the rust protector for all their metal goods. Thats a lot of raw metal on those machines.
