It seems that even if you and/or your subdivison post signs, the solicitors still come. One that comes to mind is a certain investment firm who just won't go away. I think the salesrep must have googled to get our phone number, because we received countless messages on the answering machine (despite the no call list) and mailings from him. He finally gave up when no one returned his calls....
A couple of stories from the past with solicitors:
My father-in-law once answered the door to a pair of religious guys offering "free Bibles." He took the Bible, said thanks, and closed the door on them! They banged on the door, demanding that he open it up. He did and they told him he couldn't just take the Bible like that. He told them, "Why not? You gave it to me!" and shut the door again!
A friend of mine lives in a community with the "no solicitors" signs. She also has one on her door. She was sleeping one evening due to flu-like issues and someone banged on her door. Not once, but several times. Irritated, she picked up her trusty handgun she kept nearby and went to the door. The person started to rattle the door knob and she shouted out, "Get away from my door or I'll shoot!" The person cried out, "Don't shoot! I'm your neighbor!" Evidently, he was trying to deliver notices about "National Night Out!" She opened the door and gave him a good tongue lashing about her "no solicitors" sign and a few more things on her mind! I doubt he'll ever do that again!

I do this with the multitudes of credit card and other solicitations I get in the mail. Calling them to get off their list is useless. I just open the "garbage", make sure there is a return envelope with a return postage bar code and I fold up the exterior envelope with all the other junk and mail it right back to them on their dime! I also circle the name and address in red and ask to be taken off their list. Some have actually stopped! Even if it doesn't work, it's good therapy. I just hope they recycle.

I've been sooooo tempted to do this. Would you believe my daughter is now getting solicitations for credit cards?!!

It's one of those aggravations of our society that's almost impossible to deal with effectively unless you have your own property gated. We live in Trophy Ridge and have a "no solicitation" sign up, but we still get occasional knocks on the door and flyers. It's irritating, but really what else can you do?

Some of the smaller municipalities within San Antonio don't allow solicitations at all.
But I'm wondering about HOA's?? How is this addressed in some communities (except for them delivering their own newsletters! sorry Sapphire!)

wCat - I thought I was the only one who does this!
I also have a sign:
We shoot every 3rd Salesmen - and the 2nd one just left.

We had a "Kirby salesman" knock on our door at 7pm trying to sell a vacume. My daughter opened the door and I was at the top of our stairs (our stairs come down towards the front door) holding on to our newly adopted doberman. I asked what he wanted and he said we was selling vacumes, he did not see us at the time. As I was telling him I was not interested, he looked up and saw us, with Crystal (dog) looking down right at him and quickly said okay, thanks and was gone. LOL It's funny how they don't stick around and harass you when you have a big mean looking dog next to you.

I actually kinda enjoy the company of a good Kirby Vaccum Salesperson on occasion. Call me strange, but they actually deserve a little credit. Those people are super persistant, and know their stuff. Just be ready to have company for a couple hours minimum. When I was in The Woodlands I let a pretty Kirby girl in and she vaccumed my entire couch, didn't buy anything either!...lol. I don't like salespeople that much, but I do have an appreciation for someone who is good at what they do.

Well, the Kirby sales guy did not look proffessional and drove around in an unmarked utility type van. So that, and the fact that it was dark outside were flags to me.
