I believe Kirby makes a very good, high quality vacuum, but their door-to-door sales techniques are like the exact opposite - unprofessional and almost sneaky, which only serves to diminish their reputation and cast a cloud over their product. I wonder why they just don't sell through regular channels like other vacuum manufacturers?

I'd imagine it's pretty hard to sell their products through regular channels at $850 to $2500 a pop...lol. Just my guess. I like my Dyson for less than half that! They are very sneaky, and do have unconventional methods. I have seen the so called "Sales Manager" that they bring in before you shove them out the door, kinda like the car dealership managers hiding in the room, drop them off in groups and pick them up later after being contacted on radio...lol...weird. They do hire very attractive salespeople in many cases though, which does sell, but not for that price.
Btw...off the subject, but what is up with car dealerships? I love when you talk to the "salesperson" for an hour then he sits with you in his office for another hour before he tells you, ok that's our bottom line. Then you say, "nope" and tell him the same number you told him 15 times already, and he says "hold on, let me talk to the sales manager". Later coming back with yet another off figure, and you send him back and forth blah blah blah. Eventually he says, "Ok, the manager is going to come speak with you, please hold on a min." and the guy comes out to tell you the same thing...lol. Occasionally giving you a small decrease in price, still far from what your at. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen. Do these guys actually think your gonna fall for this stupidity? The funniest thing is how they pretend the "Sales Manager" is some sort of celebrity. Who gives a woolybuger about some car dealership floor shift manager??? I just had to flow into that. It's the oddest, most ignorant psychology of sales I've ever seen.

We get a lot of solicitors too, living in a new neighborhood, and I refuse to answer the door because they've usually made my infant start crying. One day however, one of them did open my front door. By the time I got my daughter and headed down there, he was gone.

Yea, I feel sorry for the one who thinks he can open my front door....lol. I think I may dig a trench in the front yard and cover it with sticks, and leaves like in the cartoons. Maybe set up a video camera, and charge them $500 for assistance getting out.

I would have called the police and reported that! If one of them tried that when I was home, they wouldn't like the consequences!
And next time, be sure your door is always locked!
Cheers! M2

My fiancee felt that way about one solicitor, which may have been true. He was coming by at 9pm to try and sell magazines . Thankfully, she is wise enough to know not to open the door. Meanwhile, her smart (and usually quiet) dog knew what was up and did a great job of barking through the door.
Door-to-door canvassing is a great way to case a place and a great way to get leverage inside that door. All it takes is one foot in.

It is my understanding that the "No Soliciting" signs have no legal weight in San Antonio but if they disregard them then I feel ok about answering their rudeness with some of my own...
A simple "People put these up to stop both of us from waisting out time" usually works fine.

Maybe I was just raised in a different part of the world or something, but I hear alot of nothing you can do, or this and that about this topic, but if someone opens my front door suspiciously I have no problem putting some physical hurt on them. If I tell someone to stay out of my yard, or call their business and warn them same thing goes. It's my personal property and there's nothing the law can do about it if I enforce my privacy.

Slightly off topic here. Sad to say and WAY different from where I grew up, but anyone these days who leaves any exterior door unlocked while being inside their house is just plain foolish, IMO. I'd also suggest keeping a loaded shotgun or two handy just to be safe. BTW, Home Depot sells a $10 product called the Door Stopper that will flat out prevent anyone from kicking your door in.

We had a very pushy Kirby saleswoman come to our door on Friday night. She wouldn't even say the word "Kirby" for a long time. She kept telling me that she just wanted my opinion on something.
My four year old was there with me and she asked me if she was my only child. Then she wanted to know why I only had one child. I was very offended, I think that is a personal question. So, I told her I was recovering from cancer (which is true), and she didn't miss a beat. She started telling me she was a cancer survivor. She was beyond obnoxious.
Needless to say, I was beyond irritated. We have a brand new Dyson and she told me it would fall apart in no time. Whatever.
I told my husband to go and get one of those "No Soliciting" signs for the door. But from reading these posts, it might not be worth my time.
We got another salesperson this evening--she was selling cleaning products.
