I will make a difference with you...without one you feel the need to be courteous, will one it "emboldens" you to be a little more forcefull in sending them packing.

And for me it did cut down on it by 50% or more. I had some "holly rollers" come by last weekend, I open the door and they pointed to the sign and said "does this apply to us", I said "definitely" and off they went.

Oh and I could'nt find any decent looking signs locally so I ordered mine on ebay:

I looked on your ebay link, liked the look of the "please, no soliciting" sign but its message is a little to "polite" for what I am trying to get across.

Just wanted to add, I have a dyson animal and I love it! My kids beg to vacuum and I won't let them because I love to do it myself.

I love my dyson animal too

I know this is a little harsh but I saw a sign that said "Trespassors will be shot, survivors will be shot again"

Yes, well sometimes they don't take hints. That definately gets the message across.

I made my own sign with a little wooden plaque and some stick-on letters from Hobby-Lobby. Either it's working or there just aren't any door-to-door people now. We get some flyers on the door handle but that really doesn't bother me.

My door is locked unless I'm walking through it. There is just no telling with people...

Our doors are always locked also, I am just not going to take that chance.

When my husband and I went to England, we purchased what we thought was a ver "posh" brass door knocker. It was of a fox head. Well, apparently our posh fox looked more like some sort of devil worshipers' symbol, and those who would convert us to their brand of religion by knocking on our door regularly, literally ran down the sidewalk when they passed our house. It was funny for me to watch them knock on everyone else's door, but race past our house.

When we lived in another home, my husband, who is the very meaning of kindness and consideration, listened patiently to a group bent on saving our souls, who came calling at our door, until one day he just became tired of the regular visits. So the next time we had a knock, he opened it and when they gave him their pamplet, he grabbed it and said, "Oh, thank God you've brought this. I was waiting to read it! And quickly closed the door." They stopped coming, too.

It is sort of sad to feel this way about interruptions, because most of the people who represent their beliefs in this way are sincerely trying to be of help.

And...yet...I'm going to look around for another nice fox-head doorknocker... It's cheaper than feeding a guard dog.

I just had someone come up the drive and knock on the door asking if I had a security system. I pointed at the gun case, and gave him a few smart lines and he left. As he was leaving I ran into the garage and turned on the sprinkler system. I came back in and watched him getting drenched as he walked the 175 yard drive back to the road...lol...Im sure the 45 degree weather didn't help much.
