My friends and I are looking for something fun to do this NYE that ISN'T downtown. Going downtown is such a nightmare because it's impossible to get a cab (even if you reserve one in advance) and none of us want to be a DD or deal with parking. We would have a party at our house but we just moved and the house won't be ready for company yet... this is the last time we move during the holidays!!

So far the only thing I have found is Club Antro in the Medical Center, which sounded OK until I saw it's 18+. We are only interested in 21+. Any ideas?

Check out the San Antonio Current for some suggestions.
SA Current - Browse Calendar (http://www.sacurrent.com/calendar/browse.asp?timebase=12%2F31%2F2008 - broken link)

Me? Home safe home. All those 18+ at Club Antro (and elsewhere) will be gettin' their drink on and hittin' the roads later. Count me out.

Everything in the current is downtown. I specifically do NOT want 18+ clubs - 21+ only. My friends and I are in our 30s and don't want to hang out with high schoolers.

I did find some NYE stuff in Stone Oak - Club Luz, Swig North, and Dolce. I have never been to any of those places. If anyone has been to any of these what did you think?

Thanks!

Well you are too late for Christmas but I would recommend staying away from downtown on NYE with little kids. It will be really crowded with a bunch of drunk people.

There were 106 entries in that search, and I noticed MANY that were not downtown. One was even Medina Lake! Granted, a LOT were downtown or the nearby areas (several listing for the bars on Broadway inside 410), but certainly not "everything in the current is downtown".

i'd maybe recommend stone oak for ya. the crowd will generally be a little older compared to some places downtown. stone oak tends to have some stuck up snobs, but for the most part its cool. luz will have the oldest crowd id say of the ones you mentioned. cielito lounge is also good in the stone oak area along with duo rock lounge. i hear good things about dolce even though i havent been in a while. swig too.

you dont want to go to club antro even if it was 21+. that place is ghetto.

sounds like stone oak would be the area for you guys.

Live Swing Music at Kirbys Steakhouse on New Years Eve 1604 & Stone Oak Pkwy.

Moulin Rouge Party at Coco Chocolate Lounge& Bistro Stone Oak area/ $85 pp starts at 9pm Costumes, live entertainment, party favors, full meal and midnight champagne toast.

Alzafar Shrine temple is doing something, I've seen the commercial. Can't remember the details.

For the ones that like it loud look here: The SA Rocks Blog

Dopo.....not a whole lot of places to take little ones on New Years Eve. When ours were that little we'd just make a family night....dinner out somewhere fairly early and then a movie. As they got older, a few years we'd make sure it was a midnight movie and we'd go shoot off fire crackers outside the city limits (when there wasn't a ban). I know...pretty boring....but unless you have a family oriented party planned, their aren't a lot of "events". Although Schlitterban's Winter Event is still going on and looked really fun. Which makes me wonder if the SA Zoo has something planned for little and us big kiddo's!
