Information on Panther Creek subdivision (Medallion Homes)
Hey all,
I'm looking at purchasing my first home and I keep getting drawn back to Medallion Homes in Panther Creek because of it's great location and proximity to everything I need. Can anyone comment on the neighborhoods' crime, traffic, HOA, schools, and overall happiness? If by chance you happen to live in a Medallion there please let me know as much as you can about your experience so far.
Any info would be very much appreciated!
Thanks...

We bought our Medallion home a little over 2 years ago and we LOVE it. Their warranty service is one of the best out there. Even the people who do the warranty service say that Medallion is the best of the ones they work with. I don't know anything about your neighborhood though, we live in Sonoma Ranch.

Schools: NEISD: Wilderness Oak ES, Lopez MS, Reagan HS, all exemplary or recognized, top notch schools.
Crime: low
Traffic: Blanco Rd is a bear, but is undergoing a widening right now.
Can't comment on the neighborhood, but I have never heard anything bad. The Stone Oak area is great.
Medallion Homes finished out my neighborhood, and they did a great job.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I've heard nothing but great things about Medallion and I really love their design style, it's very unique. My brother lives in a Highland home out there in Sonoma Ranch, which is a GREAT neighborhood too but unfortunately out of my price range. The two Medallion neighborhoods I've narrowed it down to are Panther Creek and Wortham Oaks (future TPC/PGA Village area) and am trying to get as much info I can.
Thanks all, and please keep them coming...

Just watch the school boundaries on Wortham Oaks...Somewhere around there is the NEISD/JISD line.

You're absolutely correct. My realtor warned and reminded me a while back that NEISD > JISD. I've not been in SA too long, how would you say Northside ISD compares to the two above?

Exactly...if I'm not mistaken, I believe just about all of Wortham Oaks is in the Judson HS zone instead of NEISD's new Johnson HS...if that matters to you.
Another new neighborhood that looks interesting is called Presidio off NW Military Hwy and Loop 1604...just north of Shavano Park and just west of Blanco. McMillin Homes is one of the builders and the neighborhood is in the Northside ISD (Clark HS).

I'd give a slight edge to NEISD, but it truly depends on exactly where you live, and what your child(ren) need. NISD, NEISD, and AHISD are the "top three" in town IMHO . NISD is larger and growing faster, so boundaries may change- then again, they change in NEISD, too. I have heard wonderful things about NISD Spec.Ed. You really have to narrow it down to specific school vs school, and you're probably splitting hairs, too. Every school district in town has it's + and - factors.

I would suggest staying away from McMillan Homes I have a friend that bought one and has had the worst time with warranty service from them. Then they built his neighbor's home and the builders drove over his sprinkler system, trashed it. Then gives him no response about fixing the damage. I suppose once they got his money they could care less about him.
Oh and you'd be surprised what kind of deals you can get out here in Sonoma Ranch right now. Not with a brand new homes since Medallion doesn't give deals on new homes (and damn I couldn't afford a Highland) but those that are 2-5 years old have great prices right now. Also the middle and high schools are brand new, hs just opened this year and the middle will open this fall.

Thanks for the info! I'd like to go new if at all possible but I would get into a pre-owned if the price is right.
Going a little off-topic here, but can you tell me a little more about how good of a deal Medallion spec homes really are? I read one of you're posts from sometime back and it peaked my interest because some spec home incentives in Panther Creek are currently $36,000! I'm still undecided on whether to build from dirt or buy an existing.
Thanks!
