SA

Why in the world are we not developing loft style apartments in the inner city like Austin and Charlotte

The near east and west side of SA should be prime for this kind of development. Lets tear down the shanty look there and do what other cities are doing. I am all for historical areas in the near east and west side but SA needs to get with the program

Sorry for the dyxsl

I agree.

Wonder how the Quarry development will go...

I know it is not the same as adding living space to inner city development...

I agree with you, however most on this forum and San Antonio won't.

Lifeless suburban living is all people want here. Besides, who wants to live in a car-less environment that's slower paced and full of culture? The best schools are far far away from inner city. Stay away from downtown is what suburbanites here say.

Not enough demand.

To the OP: I'm curious (because of your name) as to where you live? If it's in that zip code, well.........

There are, of course, dozens of projects in various stages of occupancy, construction, and planning. We're a little behind most major cities, but it's coming.

I think the main problem with loft apartments or homes in general downtown is the city has yet to approve a grocery store going in down there. I know there are small places but no full size grocery. Until that goes in forget it, you won't get a decent amount of any type of single/family/artsy city loving people moving in there. Don't ask me why the city won't approve it, many of their decisions make no sense whatsoever to me.

While I might agree with the OP on some levels, referring to suburban "living" as being "lifeless" is just plain silly..

I think all of you need to realize that not everyone wants to live in loft condo or apartment. Some people like lees urban environments.

Why is that progressives always think they are right?

Why does the city need to "approve" a grocery store? I would think that a Grocer could set up shop on any commercial/retail zoned property they wanted to lease or buy.

Actually, San Antonio has one of the largest downtown populations in the U.S. The boundaries are a lil bigger, but it is what is considered apart of the downtown fabric. ALso, there is a lot of projects underway, River North one of the largest type downtown projects in Texas and possibly the U.S. Then there is , Pearl, So Flo, East town projects.

There are many loft style apartments going up all over the inner city. Take a trip downtown sometime and it's hard to miss them!
