The television would have to be pretty old if you need a digital converter.

My Mom has analog Cable, and had no plans to get any coupons or converter boxes for her TVs and VCRs, which all have analog-only tuners.

But after the KSAT disagreement with Time Warner and their threat to pull their feed, she decided to go ahead and get the coupons and pick up a couple of converter boxes. She's a Dancing With the Stars fanatic, and was afraid she wouldn't be able to watch one of her favorite shows. Of course, KSAT was/is still broadcasting in analog, and her current TVs could get the local channels with an antenna, but what about the future? What if another local station pulls the same stunt, or what if she decided to drop Cable altogether?

So she got her boxes so she could have a little peace of mind.

Default Digital Cable for the Senior Citizens

I happen to be a tech geek in many ways, but I truly think Barack Obama needs to make some stronger efforts to delay this switch for the senior citizens like my mom and pop. They could care less for this switch in terms in improving # of channels and HD service, but they don't want to be forced into buying a new TV for it (which is pretty old). I don't know, that's just me..

Yeah, it's like analog phones. I wouldn't mind being able to use an old school Motorola every now and then because it's retro, but at some point the switch has to be made because what the bandwidth can be used for is greater than the diminishing number of people that use an analog OTA signal to watch tv.

I'm tired of the delays and the stupid commercials. This change has only been planned for several years and I could swear there's already been a delay in there before. Let's just get it over with.
