We live in Fontana, CA and are thinking about moving to San Antonio. My office is in Houstin but I actually travel all the time and never go to the office. We are looking for a more family oriented, traditional values, firendly kind of place where we can also rebuild our finances. Coming from Corona, do you think this could be the right place?

San Antonio is definitely a family oriented city. It's one of the reasons we chose to move here. Although we do not yet have children, the place seemed ideal for kids. There are lots of areas with good schools and housing is very affordable. I think you'll like it very much if what you are looking for is a family oriented place with friendly people and a slower pace of life than S. CA. Another thing is that you'll be much nearer to everything and have lots more to do than life in the Inland Empire.

Relocated from San Diego to 78258 5 years ago, Retired and down sized, family here, otherwise we really miss San Diego, There was no traffic and nothing north of us 5 years ago, Now we are in Grid lock, Uncontrolled growth and if there is a plan it is to cram everything they can into this area. Infastructure improvements are not made to keep up with growth. Don't try to go anywhere before 10 AM and after 2 PM. A 10 minute 2 mile trip to the bank the other day took over an hour due to traffic, between the gud ol texas boy way of doing business and politicians that are only interested in their own advancements San Antonio is a small town bursting at the seams. Drivers are very agressive and rude, Depending on your traffic patterns and what you have to do, I would try New Braunfels or Boerne.

Again, just like San Diego. Aggressive drivers have become more pronounced due to the influx of people from OTHER states. Unfortunately, San Antonians have picked up the bad habits.

Sorry to bust your bubble but San Antonio is in no way like San Diego, San Diego is a City with planning and growth control. Drivers are couteous and predictable. Roads are adequate and well designed. Drivers here have no idea what turn signals are for, They have no idea how to merge into traffic, Speed, follow way to close, Run Stop signs, ignore signs and are just plain rude. The roads here are poorly engineered and grossly inadequate, certainly not at all like San Diego, or anywhere else I have been with the exception of Dallas and Houston, Must jest be a Texas Thang.

You seem to be very knowlegable about the San Antonio area. My husband and I will be moving there in July. He is a civilian working with the Army. Could you please tell me about the homes for sale around the Fort Houston area or could you point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help. Have a great day

First of all, thank you for your service. I suggest when you come that you scope out the neighborhoods first, before you decide on something. Housing is very reasonable here, and there are a lot of military that live in the area. With the freeways, we have frontage roads, and people coming off of the freeway have the right of way, but people on the frontage road need to yield. Just yesterday I am coming off of Loop 410 west, exiting at Harry Wurzbach, and here comes this white Toyota Corolla. He is approaching the yield sign, and no slow up, I am nearly on teh frontage road, and no slowing of him, so I brake, and he flys by. This idiot HAD the yield sign, he was supposed to YIELD to me! He didn't, so after he passed I laid on the horn. He initially stayed left, and then last second he swerved over the solid white line and continued on the frontage road.
Just watch the frontage roads, people either come to a complete stop, or blow right through the sign.
Good luck with your move.

RE: Moving from Temecula to San Antonio
Good luck on your move here. My family and I moved from So. Cal almost 6 years ago. I would be careful about moving to the Stone Oak area of San Antonio. High volume of traffic and not enough road. Big headache! We live w/i loop 1604 in the north central part of town. It is okay. After being away from California for several years, I am getting a bit homesick. It's nice out here, but definitely not the same.

Hopefully you'll find the place. If you do there are still some great places to raise a family.
