Moving from Temecula, CA to San Antonio
Job relocation to the 78258 zip code area. We have driven through many times but have never lived in Texas. Has anyone made the move from OC California to San Antonio. We are a mix of Asian (Husband) and French/German wife- so kids are a beautiful mix 7 and 10. They are use to warm weather-skateboarding, softball and little league. Any advice on housing below 350K mark. HOA Fees and property taxes. Thanks, USMC Infantry military newly retired onto second career as civilian career...No family or friends in San Antiono.

Check out the relocation sticky at the top of the page. It contains a ton of good information. A lot of us have moved from SoCal to SA..some happy...some not.

WELCOME to SA! As the PROUD mom of a USMC, Semper Fi and you know that you DO have USMC family here if nothing else.
You will enjoy SA...much of what you enjoy from your post above to enjoy here.
With a housing budget like that, come to SA...pay cash for a NICE 200K home and invest the rest...great time for rental property if you decide to make that commitment here.
You will find property taxes high, but considering there is no state tax and the cost of living is so much cheaper than CA, I think you will be happy with your new home.
Let us know if we can help....and again, welcome!

Our neighbor relocated here from Temecula and is really liking it and we've moved here from Corona. It's been great for us as well. At that price range, you'll have no problem finding a great home here. Best wishes on your move.

My inlaws moved here from Temecula in October (they moved to Helotes though) - got a Ryland home for just under 300k, HOAs are minimal. There are a couple of Ryland communities near the 78258 area.

Hi and welcome to SA.
Find an acceptable commute vs. school district and go from there.
Plenty to do all over the city. You won't miss the commissary, either. I haven't been once since we arrived a few months back.
I believe Wingate, on the way to Medina Lake has homes in that range.
Any questions? Feel free to DM me.

Looking at the map, well regarded Sonterra & Hollywood Park both offer very nice homes in your price range. HP is older, but offers larger lots. Sonterra has a country club. Both offer great schools.
The area of the job is SA's highest traffic area.
If you want to be closer to the city and all it has to offer, you could get into Alamo Heights. Your husband would have the opposite commute at rush hour (so roughly 20 minutes each way).
Not Temecula, but I lived in Playa Del Rey for several years...

I would reccomend anything in the Stone Oak area. It is the North Central side of town and is all essentially brand new(within a few years). Our neighboorhood is brand new and is called The Villages at Stone oak. Anything in this area is considered to be the best public schools in San Antonio. Property taxes are high, but if you are going to rent this would be perfect if you can find something in your range. Also, a great apartment complex is The Montecristo if you need time to feel out the area. Again look in the masterplanned area of Stone Oak. Hope that helps!

I wouldn't jump into a $350k house immediately. Demographics of neighborhoods are rapidly evolving. Property tax in Texas is also 3%. There are a lot of good $200k-$300k homes that feed into the same exact schools in the area.
I do recommend you look north of the Sonterra Medical Area. The vibe changes drastically within a two mile drive.
1. Just like in OC, education and physical fitness has weight. This makes a big difference in how people are treated racially in this part of town, especially for mixed races.
2. A lot of current and ex-military officers.
3. If you can handle and enjoy the OC type policing and neighborhood regs, its probably the best fit.
