I am a nurse looking for a family community that is in a reasonable distance to work in a hospital. Perferably a trauma 2 or higher hospital. If anyone knows what hospitals hire FNPs to work in the accute emergency room setting it would also help.

There are 3 level one trauma centers currently in SA....Wilford Hall Med Ctr on Lackland AFB, BAMC Med Center at Ft Sam Houston Army post and University Hospital in the Medical Ctr.

Given that, I KNOW that WHMC is hiring nurses in the ER right now (check with a complany called Angel Staffing), not sure but would suspect the others are as well.

WHMC is in the far west side of SA, University is up in the NW/Medical Ctr area and BAMC is on the NE...so you can really kinda pick. The Medical Ctr has probably a dozen hospitals clumped together for you to select from...but not sure the levels of their trauma ctrs.

Hope this helps...from one nurse to another, I can assure you as a nurse you will NOT be without work in SA unless you choose not to work.

I understand at least one of them will have a full ER, but not sure the level of care. I know it will NOT be level one. Not sure about the others, perhaps they too will have ER's. The loss of WHMC Level One will have a HUGE impact on life or death care on this side of town in transport times. Of course, a small percentage of that seen in ER's warrant level one needs.
