I also mentioned this in the Lackland thread this morning.

Barksdale AFB, LA may have a slight advantage as it has been the provisional HQ since 2006. However, San Antonio has a lot going for it. There is the Air Force Information Operations Center (formerly Air Force Information Warfare Center) as well as NSA operations coming on line pretty soon to name a few.

Well, considering that the Air Force Computer Emergency Response Center (AFCERT) is also located on Security Hill, and that the now-AF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency (formerly the Air Intelligence Agency) is also located here; as well as the Joint Information Operations Warfare Command (JIOWC) and the 67th Network Warfare Wing; Lackland has a lot going for it!

But those jobs will require clearances and many of them already have people performing functions that will be rolled up into CYBERCOMMAND; so it won't be like 500 new jobs will be created despite what the article says. There will be new positions; but a lot of people who are qualified with clearances will be applying as believe it or not, a lot of people want to move to San Antonio!

Plus, I don't know where CYBERCOMMAND would be located as there really isn't any room left on Security Hill...

Cheers! M2

I'm going to put my money on Scott. I'd like to see it here because it's yet another job opportunity, but from what I've heard, Scott would be the best place.

RD

Really? I figured it would be us or Barksdale...

Scott already has TRANSCOM, and no infrastructure for CYBERCOMMAND that I know of...

Cheers! M2

I had the pleasure of briefly chatting with Gen. Lord last year, and he wouldn't say whether he thought Cybercommand would be at any location. There has been some change in the scope of Cybercommand, too (move from MAJCOM to USAF upper-echelon entitiy) and from what I've heard/read Congress isn't sure about Barksdale anymore.

I'm certain that the folks in Shreveport are working overtime to make sure Cybercommand stays right where it is...

alphagaiter is on a distinguished road
Scott wouldn't be a bad place for CyberCom. I was stationed there when I worked in AF communications and it is is probably one of the largest bases for communications billets outside of Washington DC and Lackland. The Air Force Comm Agency is there as well as a DISA office. All of the communications assets for Air Mobility Command are also located on base. Although I sure wouldn't want to be living there again, not my most favorite place.

bingo alphagaiter. I don't think anywhere else in the world has bandwidth like them. I heard the town is really nice and it seems like a place I would like to live. Nice small town.
