I'd recommend anywhere downtown/southtown, although it might be hard to find something very cheap these days in the area. Commute to Kelly is about 15 minutes - you're going against traffic.

Near I-10 and Loop 1604. Within 2 or 3 miles seems to be the area. Of all the Boeing people I've met the only ones I know who live in the south side are family types who have been there for a long time. That's not to say that there aren't younger people there - it's just my limited observation.
