What would be the fastest route around this? We saw 1604 yesterday and it looked just as bad.

Would back roads through Grissom, Culebra, Bandera to the medical area get through the bad part? I'm so glad someone posted here, I'm hoping to avoid it today

We ended up backtracking through Grissom. It was still busy but not too bad.

There is no way around during certain times. Just don't drive between 7-9 am and 4:30-6:30 PM

FYI.....it was/is closed on the NE section too! A complete nightmare. All the feeder road and back roads were backed up as well with everyone jumping off to escape getting stuck. They just got stuck somewhere else....as I did!

Don't we have a TXDot member here! We need one!

Flew out of SAT yesterday...my driver took 151 to 90 past Kelly and kind of went around the city to get to the airport. It took a little longer than normal (maybe 30 minutes total..instead of 20) but we were moving along quite nicely the entire time.

OH YEAH DEFINATELY!
I'll definately vouche for that! I take that way all the time, because -generally speaking compared to the rest of the freeways in SA- there's no [bad] traffic that way! My family lives on Bandera/Guilbeu and (from downtown/ UIW) I go either:
10, 410, Bandera or
90/151, 410, Culebra/Tezel

and yes the second way is a little longer distance wise, but considering that terrible mess that is 410/Evers/Bandera/Wurzbach, it's well worth it most of the time. (in fact, I almost got in a wreck over there like 2 hours ago!)

Hwy 90 and SH 151- try it, you might like it
