So, my little guy was a healthy little house destroyer until the winter came. We moved here this past summer from NJ & I guess these pollens here are having fun with us all. He developed sinus issues over Christmas break & seemed to get a little better. WELL, *sigh* it hit him horribly again about 10 days ago. I took him to the ped. last Thur. & they said he had an acute ear infection & congestion. Sent us on our way with a few Rx's. By the next a.m. he was fighting SO hard to breathe I called 911 because I was afraid to put him in the car seat & not be able to watch if he was breathing. We were taken to Methodist Childrens (I was grateful to find out we have a childrens hospital close by but not happy to need it). They worked him up and said he had pnemonia, asthma, RSV and still the ear infection. He spent the next 3 days there. What torture for us all! They said they think it was all started by allergies I didn't know that was possible!!! Our wonderful new city actually made my little man sick? Is this "normal".... the nurses said they see it VERY often
I'm already guessing you all will tell me this is not uncommon - but had to get this off my chest anyway.
Also, I guess you'll know why I've not been online much lately.
Time for another nebulizer treatment

I'm very sorry to hear about your son and hope he gets better soon!

South-Central Texas is indeed a haven for allergies as our allergy season lasts the entire year. January and February yield terrible Mountain Cedar seasons.

I'm so sorry to hear about all your little guy is going through. We have also had to call an ambulance when our baby girl couldn't breathe and it hit me in the pit of my stomach just reading your story again. I had no idea that allergies could lead to pneumonia and RSV. I'm glad you got diagnosed though and hope that his road to recovery will be smooth from here.

Thank you!
I *think* the RSV was a separate issue from the ear, pneumonia & asthma though I'm not sure if his lowered immune system from allergies could have made him more susceptible to it?

I can't imagine how scary that was for you. Poor little guy. Hope he starts feeling better very soon.

This is our 2nd winter here. Last winter, my girls were sick all the time. They lived on the nebulizer. This winter has been totally different. I figured since we were from a different part of the country, their little bodies weren't use to the different pollens here. Maybe, by now, they have built up a little tolerance? Just a theory.....

Im sorry to hear about your boy. I'll say a prayer for him. I have a 1yr old myself, and fortunately he hasn't come down with anything here in San Antonio. I don't know if it's something that hits them later, or is not age discriminating. That would scare me to death. My son is my whole world, so I have sympathy for you.

I recommend you get your little guy to a good allergist. Knowing for sure what he's allergic to and getting the best medicine for it will give you both a lot of peace of mind. There are threads here with local recommendations if you search this forum for "allergist."

That is encouraging! Thank you for sharing that. If this were to keep up year after year, I'm thinking I'd have to insist we move again. I don't WANT to - but this is just awful. I pray my little guy & his big sister will build up tolerance to this soon as it seems your girls did.

That is a great idea! I will talk to his pediatrician at his follow up appt. She did put in a referral for a pulmonologist. The allergist makes even MORE sense
