Authentic German food, especially in New Braunfels ?? (San Antonio, Kirby: appointed, house)

Oops... Sorry. I guess I should have done a 'search' first before I posted.

Actually I was fishing for the name of a German Restaurant located in New Braunfels.
When we lived in San Antonio many, many years ago we used to drive there to eat and the food was fantastic. Always had to wait for a table even though the dinning area was hugh.
I wish I could remember the name.
New Braunfels has grown and changed so much since that time I can't begin to remember where it was located. But from what I recall, it was right on I-35 or right off of I-35.
After reading the other threads I only saw a couple restaurants mentioned in New Braunfels and they did not sound familiar.

It probably isn't exactly what you had in mind, but I do know that the Hickory-Smoked Meats Since 1945 | New Braunfels Smokehouse has really good meats and some German specialties on the menu.

Also, I updated your thread title to attract more attention from those who know New Braunfels.

I went to Friesenhaus recently and the food was great. They have live music on Friday and Saturday. We had a blast there.

Looks like Hickory-Smoked Meats is more of a deli.
Maybe someone who has been there recently will post their opinion.

As I mentioned above, the place we used to eat at had a hugh dinning area and we always had to wait 20-30 minutes for a table. But it was well worth the wait.
Friesenhaus has only been around since 2005 and Oma's Haus doesn't look like it at all.

I went to the Friesenhaus right after Christmas and opposite of Jorgito, I didn't like it at all. I felt it was overpriced and the schnitzel was really fatty and seemed like it had been twice fried. I was really disappointed.

I went to Oma's Haus once around 10 or so years ago and thought it was really good, but that was before I knew anything about Schnitzel.

I just got back from a 3 year tour in Germany in September, so I guess I am particular in what a good schnitzel for me is.

I would like to go back up to New Braunfels and go back to Oma's Haus and give it another whirl.

I agree, the Friesenhaus is OK but expensive. We've not tried Oma's House, but since I just got back from a week in southern Bavaria I am about "schnitzel'd out" at the moment! It is one of the things I love most about my job, I get to go to Germany about once or twice a year!

I was born and somewhat raised in Germany, so I am very particular about German food! You can see by my posts in the other threads that I am constantly on the hunt for good German restaurants in the area; but to be honest you are just not going to find anything close to the real thing! I've had a few decent meals, but everytime I got back to Germany I realize how deficient this part of Texas is when it comes to German food!

Goosey, if you check out Oma's House please give us a review. Since you've "been there," I trust you'll be able to share what is really good and what isn't!

It is a man and his son ... very small, but the food has always been good. We love the homemade rolls (yum!!!) And the schnitzel is awesome.
